Several women in Muslim garb. Hare Krishna, with their musical instruments. Catholic priests. Young teachers. Students… One of the directors of the Peacemakers Circle is Indian; another, a teacher who belongs to an indigenous tribe from the North. From Japan came the directors of Shumei Philippines, a Shinto inspired organization promoting natural agriculture. The group represented different faith traditions practiced in the Philippines— Buddhist, Hindu, Catholic, Muslim, Baha’i—and even from a non- denominational spiritual group, The Community for the Message of Silo. Together they shared a simple yet heartfelt afternoon, sharing with each other their chants and prayers, their faiths’ beliefs and insights, on the theme of Loving God, Loving One’s Neighbor.
During the Monday Flag Raising Ceremony of the province of Sultan Kudarat includes the Watery of Life Ceremony to be done by the Religious Leaders of Christianity, Islam and Indigenous and the Local Government of the Province of Sultan Kudarat to followed by the Reading of the United Nations Resolution proclaiming the First Week of February every year as the World Interfaith Harmony Week. This will be followed by an Interfaith Forum entitled \\\"Addressing the Critical Challenges of our Time: The Role of Religion and Faith Based Organization. Christianity and Islam will present papers and the Indigenous communities will present ethnic dance.

ACTIVITIES The call for peace has always been the outcry of the world, our motherland, and especially our island Mindanao. Hence, it is good to look back that last November 2017, Puerto National High School has joined the celebration of the Mindanao Week of Peace 2017 which was incorporated with the school’s English month celebration. The celebration was pushed through in partnership with Mindanao-Sulu Pastoral Conference – Youth Secretariate (MSPC – YS) through the social advocacy campaign KAMI NAMAN which aims to spread awareness about human trafficking. KAMI NAMAN was one of the chosen shortlisted participants for the Digital Youth Summit organized by Mano Amiga Pilipinas and Facebook that aims to mold and train young leaders for responsible use of online spaces. The Harmony Chain Initiative is already spread in many countries promoting the Harmony Prayer as a universal prayer. A visible sign of this initiative is a new House of Nations for the Harmony Chain Initiative in Harmony Village that will be inaugurated this year on the occasion of the WIHW.
For this day’s activity, one of the events was the community visit to Southcom Village where Christian and Muslim family live in one area together. Ms. Michelle Mangrubang, the formation organizer for the activity that day reached out families that have illnesses and underlying conditions. She teamed up with some of her friends who go to Acupuncture sessions at Harmony Village and made up a simple gathering with the families to share some amazing stories and the wonders of acupuncture. They also shared the significance of World Interfaith Harmony Week The families also made queries to the speaker in which results were satisfactory. In the end of the activity they were enlightened and interested to extend the knowledge to the other neighboring friends to attend to an acupuncture sessions.
We have consolidated the United Nations Harmony Partners here in Zamboanga, thanks to our linkages in the different parts of the Philippines. Silsilah has pushed with local friends and politicians. On the national level the Republic Act No. 10525 during the time of President. “An Act declaring the First Week of February of every year as World Interfaith Harmony Week (WIHW) in the entire country and mandating its observance by the different Government Agencies.” This year, we have done a lot of activities and we have been able to involve many other partners in Zamboanga City using the theme: CELEBRATING LIFE IN THE SPIRIT OF MERCY AND COMPASSION. In the celebration of the World Interfaith Harmony Week on February 1-7, 2017, we are inviting you to participate in the opening program on February 1, 2017, from 1:30-6:00 in the afternoon at the Finster Auditorium, 7/F Finster Hall, Ateneo de Davao University. World Interfaith Harmony Week: An Atmosphere to Dialogue brings oneness and harmony among peoples of different cultures and faith traditions. The panel of representatives from Buddhism, Christianity, Islam and Shikh/Hinduism will share their message and reflection about the theme “Celebrating Harmony in the spirit of Mercy and Compassion”. We hope that this celebration shall not only be limited to our sharing of a few hours of listening to each other but that this could inspire greater commitment to promote harmony and peace in Asia and beyond. This is organized by the Ateneo de Davao University, Silsilah Forum Davao and the Office of the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Davao City, Philippines.

February 1, 2016 (Monday) Offices, Agencies and Institutions are invited to commemorate the celebration of the WIHW during the Flag Ceremony Interfaith Conference: A Reflection of the present realities in the context of “A Common Word
On February 6, there was a Forum on Climate Change held at Xavier University, Cagayan de Oro city. There were 3 speakers invited: a Lumad, Muslim and Christian and each one of them shared the perspective of their respective faiths on the pressing issue these days which is on Climate Change and this affects everybody on earth. After the three speakers, there was a workshop for the 200 participants on their action plan to address the issue on Climate Change. Representatives from each group shared their simple yet doable action plans. The forum ends with the singing of the Harmony Prayer.
On February 3, 2016, there was an Ecumenical Prayer hosted by the United Church of Christ in the Philippines and there were different prayers delivered by representatives from the Catholics, Evangelicals, UCCP, and Iglesia Filipina Independiente with the following prayers for: Mercy for the Poor, the 2016 Philippine Presidential Elections, reconciliation and restoration, and just-peace for God’s Creation. The ecumenical prayer ended with the lighting of the candle of peace and a solidarity message delivered by a Muslim representative.
A Festival of Harmony was the culminating activity of the weeklong celebration of the 2016 World Interfaith Harmony Week. The program highlighted the mutual cooperation between the government and the religious sector in promoting religious freedom, dialogue and peace. Leaders of faith based organizations, members of the diplomatic corps and key government gathered to highlight the harmony of all religions which was best presented through the sharing of aspirations of peace stories by 4 children from different faiths. It also brought together representatives from the foreign communities living the Philippines to foster friendship and mutual cooperation. A highlight of the evening was the presentations and musical performances by various children’s groups expressing their aspirations of mercy, hope and peace.

Young single adult (aged 18-25 years old) Catholics, Muslims, Buddhists and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints learned to understand, appreciate and respect each faith’s uniqueness and shared attributes, and established good rapport with each other for peace-building and future partnerships
Muslims, Christians, and other faith groups marched to the places of worship in the Quiapo area to express solidarity and harmony among religions. Participants visited both the house of worships of the Catholics and Muslims.
Pacific Dialogue Foundation & Religions for Peace Philippines, University of Santo Tomas Mary the Mother of Jesus is a woman both revered in Islam and in Christianity. In this symposium, the interfaith community reflected on the role of Mary and her virtues of love, mercy and compassion. This event celebrated the commonalities of different faiths.
In this symposium, police personnel from the Philippine National Police conversed with multi-religious leaders on the values of love, mercy and compassion, and how it can be integrated in their daily routines of maintaining peace and order in the society.
A digital poster-making contest with the theme: Creating Peace & Hope through the Three Acts of Goodness launched 6 weeks prior to the event. Participants and winners of the contest were given recognition and the audience were exhorted to apply good values in their lives.
A forum celebrating the gift of womanhood among members of different faith groups and where the promotion of unity, harmony and peaceful dialogue can help uplift and build up society
Peacemakers’ Circle An evening of reflections and sharing on peace as people from different faiths shared inspirational experiences on building bridges of friendship with people of other faiths.
Representatives from different faiths and religious organizations discussed the consequences of climate change. Speakers reported on COP 21 and the technical aspect of climate change. A roundtable discussion followed as participating faiths and religious organizations identified ways to reduce climate change which can be implemented in their specific lay communities and barangays (villages).
The politics of food can unite humanity. The activity celebrated interfaith and diversity, yet one humanity through understanding and partaking of halal, kosher and vegetarian food.
People of other faiths and the general public were invited to an experience of wearing the hijab. A video featuring a social media experiment showing how the public perceives a person wearing a hijab was shown. The event was attended by members of the academe and non-government organizations.
The breakfast dialogue gathering of religious leaders, key government officials and the Diplomatic Corps hosted by his Eminence, Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle, the Archbishop of Metro Manila, commenced the weeklong interfaith harmony celebration. At this meeting, Cardinal Tagle delivered his keynote address on the significance of the World Interfaith Harmony Week celebration.
For the celebration of the World Interfaith Harmony Week, this group engaged the administrators of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Logistics Command Elementary School and invited them to join and participate in the said celebration.
There will be a prayer and message of WIHW during the Eucharistic celebration, a special service at the Home for the Aged at 9am at the Talon-talon followed by the culminating activity at the celebrity hall of Astoria Hotel.

Young Zamboangeños y Zamboangeñas gather at the Ateneo BC Lecture Hall for the Zamboanga Youth Leaders' Conference, with the theme "Youth Leaders Promoting Peace and Harmony through Social Media". This event, organized by the Ateneo Peace Institute, Archdiocese of Zamboanga-Archdiocesan Youth Apostolate, and the Silsilah Youth Program, marks the second day of the ?WIHW.
The idea of my project is for my students to approach someone they have never met before and ask if they can take their picture, and talk to them a bit to get some kind of background or story. They shall upload the photos (with captions) to the Facebook page I created (PISAY CARunungan) and on their personal page(s). They shall also exhibit printed copies of the photographs in our school and hopefully to a local museum as well.
The Theology Department in coordination with Silsilah Forum Davao (SFD. This celebration reaffirms that mutual understanding and inter-religious dialogue constitute important dimensions of a culture of peace. On February 3 at 6pm, an Ecumenical prayer for the Christians will take place to be hosted by the United Church of Christ in the Philippines and the Muslims will join the prayer as observers and to share a message of solidarity and forgiveness. To celebrate the 2016 World Interfaith Harmony Week, Fo Guang Shan Mabuhay Temple, together with the Buddha’s Light International Association, is holding a digital poster-making contest with the theme: Creating Peace & Hope through the Three Acts of Goodness. Using posters is an effective way to present a concept or an idea especially abstract ones such as the aspiration to have a more peaceful society. As a medium that combines both visual and textual elements, posters can stimulate the minds and touch the hearts of people and inspire them to take positive action. On October 20, 2010, the United Nations (UN) Assembly accepted the proposal of H.M. King Abdullah II of Jordan to celebrate the first week of February of every year as the celebration of the World Interfaith Harmony Week (WIHW). This is to recognize the importance of dialogue in the pluralistic context of our world today. This is also an opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of different cultures, traditions and religions to the work of peace.
