The contest was organised within the framework of World Interfaith Harmony Week, with the support of Plateforme Interconvictionnelle Bruxelles. Our photo contest was launched on Dec.1st 2017 and the last date for submissions was 15 January 2018. Participants submitted pictures and the organizers chose the 12 finalists. A jury selected the 3 prize-winners after voting, on the basis of criteria focusing on artistic, educational and inter-faith dialogue. We will hold a photo exhibition opening event at the Chapel for Europe on February 1st, marking the start of the WIHW events organized by the Plateforme Interconvictionelle Bruxelles. Some Ghentian organisations work together on the project of Dialogue Tables. The purpose of these dialogue tables is to get people from different ethnical, cultural, religious and socio-economic backgrounds together around one table. We want 'old' Ghentians to meet 'new' Ghentians who have a migratory or refugee background. These people could cross one another in the streets without greeting or even looking at each other, but when they take part in the dialogue tables, they get to now one another. We are convinced that this kind of initiatives, that stimulate dialogue between different kind of communities within the city of Ghent, fight prejudices and can make Ghent a warmer and more open space for everyone. The dialogue tables take place once a month during the whole year of 2018.

Alévisme en Belgique, un culte bientôt reconnu ?   Encouragée par nos pays voisins (Danemark, Suède, Pays-Bas, Autriche, et différentes régions d’Allemagne et de Suisse) où l’alévisme se voit reconnu comme religion ou culte distinct de l’islam, la communauté alévie de Belgique a également entrepris les démarches d’obtention d’une reconnaissance officielle.   Cette demande fait émerger nombre de questions : comment gérer cette multiplication des reconnaissances de communautés convictionnelles reconnues (dans les écoles, hôpitaux, prisons, dans la formation des cadres, …) ? Le système de financement des cultes glisse-t-il vers le financement plus large de minorités ethno-culturelles ?   Nos intervenants présenteront l’alévisme : Qu’est-ce que l’alévisme ? Qui sont les alévis de Belgique ? Quelles relations entretiennent-ils avec les autres communautés musulmanes ?,    pour ensuite se pencher sur l’épineuse question de la reconnaissance de cette communauté. Petit-déjeuner interreligieux   Pour la 6e année, un petit-déjeuner interreligieux sera organisé par la Communauté de Sant’Egidio à Bruxelles. Des leaders juifs, musulmans et chrétiens ainsi qu’une personnalité du monde politique discuteront lors d’un petit déjeuner dans un cadre informel, facilitant l’ouverture et l’échange.    La Communauté de Sant’Egidio, organisatrice de l’évènement, est très active dans le dialogue interreligieux et interconvictionnel au niveau local, régional et international. Elle a entre autres coordonné la marche ‘Together in Peace – Freedom and Respect’ qui s’est tenue à Bruxelles en mars 2015 et coordonne la marche pour la paix du 1er janvier 2017.

It is a good thing to be in dialogue with people that believe in something else than you. But why not start at another point and together build the table for the dialogues of the future? People of all ages, colours, cultures and religions are welcome to join us to build a table for dialogue together. The church has building materials and building experts. We only need you!

Then we enter the Synagogue and are guests at the service. We will see how the Torah is taken out of its cabinet and listen to rabbi Jair Melchior’s sermon.
