The Living Interfaith Church will be dedicating its February 12th service, in song as well as word, to Interfaith Harmony. It is at the core of who we are. We come together, Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Jew, Baha’i, Humanist and Seeker, to pray together, learn about each other and celebrate our common humanity. We strongly support World Interfaith Harmony Week. It’s a start, an important start, towards World Interfaith Harmony all year long.

Civility Outreach Training for Church Leaders and Their Faith Communities

Our guest speaker is John Kesler, the title of his talk is: "Civility as the Civic Expression of the Golden Rule; The Special Role of Faith Communities in our Polarized Society." The breakfast will be followed by a seminar given by John Kesler, entitiled "Civility Outreach Training for Church Leaders and Their Faith Communities" which is open to the public. 9:30- 11:30 a.m. Salt Lake City Marriott Downtown Hotel, 75 S. West Temple – Salt Lake City, Utah A sumary of the seminar is as follows: The Utah Civility and Community Initiative seeks to encourage and assist individuals, schools, civic groups, churches, businesses, local communities, the media and elected officials throughout Utah to set goals to be more, civil, welcoming, inclusive and caring and to act on them. Church leaders and faith community members are invited to participate in a training where we will practice civility as the civic expression of the Golden Rule. There will be a short introduction on the principles of civility and then small group conversations addressing the topic of how churches and faith communities can reach out to their surrounding neighborhoods and invite a collaborative effort with neighbors to create a more vibrant community of understanding, respect, and welcoming. Anyone interested in attending is welcome. Light refreshments will be served.

One Spirit Learning Alliance World Interfaith Harmony Week Prayer Vigil

The One Spirit Learning Alliance Interfaith Seminary Class of 2012 initiated a 24 hour prayer vigil to be held on February 7th. All who are a part of the OSIS community worldwide will join us by signing up for 15 minutes of prayer - bringing into focus the common values of all people, and the desire for peace and harmony in communities worldwide. We are excited that we have this opportunity to participate in a project with our OSIS family worldwide. We look forward to bringing together great energy, to this important and much needed United Nations initiative.

Won Buddhist young adult group celebrates 2nd World Interfaith Harmony Week on Feb.5th in Seoul, Korea. Rev. Sejin Kim held a dharma service to mark World Interfaith Harmony Week, observed annually during the first week of February. During the service, Rev. Kim introduced ‘World Interfaith Harmony Week’ and delivered a talk about ‘The Triple Universal Ethics’ to promote and practice peace and harmony. "The Triple Universal Ethics: All religions and spirituality are based on a Common Source, all human beings and all forms of life are interdependent as One Earth Family, and all social, economic, religious and political enterprises have a Common Purpose." Won Buddhist kids group observed World Interfaith Harmony Week 2012.

In celebration of World Interfaith Harmony Week, Rev. Inkyong Lee held a special meeting with her kids group to introduce World Interfaith Harmony Week on February 5th, 2012 in Iksan, Korea. During the meeting, kids learned why we need interfaith harmony and how we can enhance harmony and respect. Rev. Lee believes that educating kinds about mutual understanding and harmony is crucial to build a peaceful world. “All religions and churches must understand their foundation of the common source. This understanding can bring a greater harmony among different religious traditions.” Master Chung San, Won Buddhism

World Interfaith Harmony at Interfaith Community Church

Our week of World Interfaith Harmony begins with a Sunday morning worship service February 5th 10am about the ancient Goddess San Fraid from Wales, known in other cultures as Brigid, Bride, and more, who was compassionate and generous and kind and performed healing and miracles for those in need. Monday evening February 6th 7:30pm we participate in a Sufi music, movement and prayer gathering comprised of sung Prayers in the tradition of Rumi: Estag'furullah Zikr. We will hold a Northwest Coast First Peoples Red Cedar Open Circle on Wednesday evening February 8th 7pm. Authentic stories and songs that bring people of all languages together in praise is featured. [Authentic speakers of First Peoples languages facilitate.] Bring, drums, rattles, flute and more. Bring prepared food item to share for the potluck. We open our sacred space and historic church building to the public and invite all to enjoy music, warm tea and homemade cookies February 11th 11am -1pm for Neighbor Appreciation Day. Sunday February 12th our morning worship will be in the form of Universal Worship with prayers, scriptures and inspirational readings from many traditions shared with song and chanting woven throughout. This ceremony celebrates the unity of all religions.
