End: Friday 3rd of February 2012 12:00:21 AM
Location: American Baptist Serminary of the West, 2606 Dwight Way, Berkeley, CA 97404, Berkeley, US
Muslims and Christians together make up well over half the world's population. Without peace and justice between these two religious communities there can be no meaningful peace in the world; the future of the world depends on peace between these two groups. The basis for this peace and understanding already exists within the foundational principles of the two faiths: the unity of God, love of God and love of neighbor. Those principles are found over and over again in the sacred texts of Islam and Christianity and, consequently, provide a common ground for dialogue and working together to achieve common goals. This Friday evening dialogue will be devoted to engaging in conversation(s) with representatives from Baptist and Islamic communities that will focus on our commonalities and differences toward the goal of developing skills and strategies for creating sustainable working relationships across faith barriers. All attendees will participate in round table discussions in response to the panelists' remarks. Members of the panel will be Ameena Jandali, ING Content Director; Imam Faheem Shuaibe, resident Imam of Masjidul Waritheen and director of the Clara Mohammed School in Oakland; the Rev. Dr. J. Alfred Smith, Sr., Pastor Emeritus of Allen Temple Baptist Church, Oakland; and the Rev. Dr. H. James Hopkins, Senior Pastor of Lakeshore Avenue Baptist Church, Oakland.

There will be speaches by prominent people such as the the mayor of integration, the bishop of Copenhagen, the head of the Council of Danish Moslems, and the former chief rabbi of Denmark. On stage we have standup comedy, music and a multi-religious children's choir. The audience also can participate in the making of a large "harmony vegetable painting" together with local artists. Another Interfaith Harmony event - a common walk from a local neighbourhood - will end on The City Hall Square, where torches will be lit at sunset.
