Abilene Interfaith Council will have a full plate Monday with a potluck lunch, program a practitioner of Native American spirituality, and discussion of an upcoming regional interfaith conference in Lubbock.
The meeting, which is open to the public, begins at noon in the parish hall of the Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest, 602 Meander St. Pizza slices will be available to purchase in addition to the potluck.
Monday’s speaker will be Shawna Hayhurst, owner of Cassy’s gift shop since 1993 - She facilitates and teaches natural wellness techniques from various cultures, sponsors workshops and hosts monthly meetings of the Abilene Holistic Network.
Hayhurst also is a chaplain for Native American offenders in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Her ministry to prisoners earned her the Texas Governor’s Award for outstanding religious volunteer service.
Interfaith group set to present forum
The Lubbock Interfaith Association will host the first Interfaith Forum at 7 p.m. today, Jan. 25 at the First Unitarian Universalist Church, 2801 42nd St.
The event will feature leaders from 10 traditions and perspectives: Hinduism, Judaism, Atheism, Kadampa Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Navajo, Paganism, Unitarian Universalist and Bahai Faith.
The forum will include readings from sacred texts and stories, followed by open discussion with audience and panel.
