Serve the Lord coming in the shape of the poor, the diseased, the lunatic, the leper, and the sinner! (Bring to them the food,) the earth, the water and the air needed. Partnering with the “Faiths Against Hate” initiative of the Council For A Parliament of the World’s Religions, three Atlanta interfaith organizations (Faith Alliance of Metro Atlanta, Interfaith Community Initiatives and Neshama Interfaith Center) are collaborating to invite selected cities in metro Atlanta to embrace the Charter for Compassion and declare that they are “compassionate cities”. Once a city government signs on to the Charter for Compassion, citizens will partner with government officials to develop their city’s Plan for Compassionate Action.
On Sunday afternoon (2 to 5pm) February, 2, 2104, at the Carter Center, a metro Atlanta gathering (World Cafe format) will explore questions such as: “If metro Atlanta was a more compassionate ring of cities—what would change? What would change if “compassionate action” was to become a commonly used term in our personal and public discourse”? Participants will be invited to take action over the next two months to generate engagement and support for the initiative. A second gathering (Compassion Celebration) will be held in the Martin Luther King Jr Chapel at Morehouse College on April 3rd. We will celebrate our accomplishments and chart the course for next steps.

On February 4, 2014, following the major renovation of the UN Secretariat and a restoration of the Golden Rule Mosaic, a Rededication will be sponsored by the Permanent Mission of the United States to the UN. This special occasion will celebrate the Mosaic, which has become a world symbol of diversity, inclusion and understanding, a true depiction of humanity together. It will be followed by a reception at the Church Center for the U.N.
The Mosaic, accomplished by a group in Venice, Italy, with primary funding from TGF and Dallas, also including contributions from businesses and individuals from about a dozen states, was given over to the US government. “The gift of the People of the United States to the People of the World,” as TGF labelled it, was dedicated in the prominent place where it was to hang in United Nations Headquarters by First Lady Nancy Reagan and Secretary General Javier de Cuellar in 1985.
The rededication will coincide with the beginning of the U.N. Week of Interfaith Harmony, a very special occasion, not only featuring US and other top diplomats and UN officials, but also including the Alliance of Civilizations, civil society leaders, the National Arts Club, the American Field Service students and leaders in New York, sponsors, and a selected group of Dallas leaders.
