In response to the call by the UN to observe the UN World Interfaith Harmony Week in every nation, Universitas Kristen Indonesia (UKI), the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) and Gerakan Fajar Nusantara (Gafatar) will convene an Interfaith Seminar on 10 February 2012 on the theme “Interfaith Harmony & Global Cooperation: Exploring Local Wisdom for Building Peace.” Please see enclosed program for details. Panelists include: Latifa Ali, the board president of Cooperative Metropolitan Ministries of Massachusetts; Whitney Barth, assistant director of the Pluralism Project; Francis X. Clooney, S.J., Parkman Professor of Divinity and Professor of Comparative Theology and director of the Center for the Study of World Religions at HDS; Jennifer Peace, Assistant Professor of Theological Studies at Andover Newton Theological School; and Chris Stedman, Interfaith and Community Service Fellow for the Harvard University Humanist Chaplaincy.

Professor Tutenges's ethnographic research on contemporary nightlife resorts, music festivals, drug use, and risk taking invokes Durkheim's concept of effervescence and Bataille's notion of the accursed share in seeking to understand youthful excess and experimentation as elementary forms of religious life.

Note The HDS Society for Comparative Theology presents this lecture from John J. Thatamanil, Associate Professor of Theology and World Religions at Union Theological Seminary in New York City. Professor Thatamanil is a past president of the North American Paul Tillich Society, and he is chair of the American Academy of Religion's Theological Education Steering Committee.

InterFaith Harmony

Malaysian InterFaith Network (MIN)arranged with the Borneo Post (the newspaper with the largest circulation in Borneo of more than 70,000) to carry a weekly column of the ethical teachings of the Muslim, Christian, Baha'i, Buddhist, Hindu and Sikh faiths. The column is called Interfaith Harmony. It was launched by the Minister of Islamic Affairs in Sarawak Govt. Datuk Daud on February 2 and the first issue appeared on February 5 on the front cover. The intent is show the harmony which prevails among the different religions on subjects, e.g. back-biting, compassion, contentment in alphabetical order till work is worship. Passages from the Quran were provided by the State Mufti's office and also support from the Baha'i,Christian,Hindu, Sikh faiths. This project will hopefully go on for 34 weeks, when we hope to add some more passages.

Military joined the celebration of World Interfaith Harmony Week at Ateneo de Davao University headed by Lieutenant General Arthur Tabaquero on February 1, 2012. The Ateneo Theology Division and Al Qalam Institute welcomed the response and support of the military in attending its symposium that focused on “Celebrating Harmony among the People of God’.

Jewish Prayers will be held in honour of World Interfaith Harmony Week in Elsternwick, Melbourne. You are thus warmly invited to participate in Jewish prayers in honour of InterFaith Harmony week - on Friday 3rd February in Elsternwick from 6.15 - 7.30pm The Rabbi is looking forward to meeting all if who attend. The first half-hour is a musical service, feel free to bring a tambourine, clapsticks or similar if you wish to participate! Re Dress-code: men cover their head, and we have a supply of skull-caps at the entrance for people to borrow. Otherwise just normal attire - some dress smart, others are more casual.
