Celebration of World Interfaith Harmony (4429)

2017 United Nations World Interfaith Harmony Week activities: (1) Service Project: This event held from 10am to 12 noon on Saturday 4th February 2017 attracted a team of 30 people from different religions in Dunedin to help beautify the Quaker Meeting Place at 15 Park Street. Society of Friends members were present to outline and supervise the service tasks and a great deal was achieved tidying the property garden and building. The Quaker friends were most appreciative of the service project offer by the Council and provided morning tea for the service team. At the close of the service project the Council’s gift of a Kowhai Tree was planted by Chairman David Stiles as a symbol of growing interfaith harmony. There were many comments from those present about it being wonderful to meet and work alongside people of different faiths, often for the first time.
