As the urgency of the climate crisis becomes increasingly apparent and the scale of impending suffering and loss more widely understood, and as Glasgow prepares to host the COP26 UN Climate Summit in November, this event invites people from diverse backgrounds to come together for dialogue on some key aspects of the challenge we face and to explore what an effective interfaith response might look like.  Participants will hear from four speakers:
  • Zarina Ahmad, CEMVO Scotland: What can we do together to encourage lifestyle change?
  • Stop Climate Chaos Scotland: How can we facilitate interfaith engagement with COP26?
  • Rev David Coleman, Eco Congregation Scotland: How do we meet the growing pastoral challenge?
  • Bill Crook, Earth Holders, Extinction Rebellion, Edinburgh Inter Faith Association (EIFA): Does the crisis call for civil disobedience?
There will be plenty of time for interfaith dialogue on the issues raised and refreshments will be served.  We hope this event will be a catalyst for ongoing interfaith work in Scotland in relation to the climate crisis as COP26 approaches.  Please register here: LINK TO EVENT This forms part of a trilogy of events by Interfaith Glasgow to mark World Interfaith Harmony Week (WIHW) 2020 titled “Thinking Globally, Acting Locally”. It addresses three pressing global challenges:  rising levels of prejudice and hate crime; climate change; and the growing need to welcome and support people displaced by conflict and poverty.  WIHW provides an ideal opportunity to recognise our interconnectedness with those facing the same challenges elsewhere; and to see our local efforts to address them within the global context, standing in solidarity with all those who seek to create a better world.
