The Theatrical Performance: “You Are Not Orphaned”

As part of the series of events for The World Interfaith Harmony Week, the UNESCO Chair in Comparative Study of World Religions at the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan will organize theatrical performances on February 4. These performances, presented by the Academy’s student theater group, will bring to life the themes of “You Are Not Orphaned,” emphasizing Uzbekistan’s cultural heritage and commitment to compassion, inclusivity, and unity. “You Are Not Orphaned” is a performance is inspired by Rahmat Fayzi’s renowned novel and the acclaimed 1962 film of the same name, celebrated as one of the masterpieces of Uzbek cinema. Based on true events from World War II, the story depicts the remarkable compassion of a Tashkent blacksmith, Shomahmud Shoahmedov, and his wife, Baxri Akramova, who opened their hearts and home to 14 orphaned children of diverse nationalities and faiths. This deeply moving play will explore themes of solidarity, mutual support, and humanity’s shared responsibility to care for one another, reflecting the extraordinary spirit of unity and kindness that characterized Uzbekistan during times of hardship.

Purpose of the Event:

  1. Raise Awareness: Highlight Uzbekistan’s unique cultural heritage, its historical commitment to tolerance, and its role as a beacon of peace and unity.
  2. Inspire Audiences: Deliver powerful messages of compassion, humanity, and mutual understanding, encouraging reflection on the importance of standing together as a community.
  3. Foster Creativity: Provide a platform for students to creatively express themselves and engage with meaningful themes through the art of theater.
The event will welcome a diverse audience, including students, faculty, representatives of various religious communities, and members of the public. Held in the auditorium of the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan, the performances will feature creative props, vibrant costumes, and immersive lighting to enhance the storytelling experience. By bringing these themes to life on stage, the performances will reflect the spirit of The World Interfaith Harmony Week, promoting harmony, understanding, and unity among all communities. They also pay homage to Uzbekistan’s rich cultural legacy and its timeless values of kindness, inclusivity, and mutual respect.
