understands the power of sports in building stronger and cohesive communities. The event was aimed at bringing together four community teams in Mukono to play together as a way of encouraging tolerance and respect in the communities they come from.
This event was officially opened by the Local Council Chairperson of Lutengo Mr Kasasira, who welcomed all the participants in his area and reechoed his offices’ commitment to peace and development in the area. He encouraged young people who were the majority participants to avoid drug abuse and also called upon families to abolish gender-based violence which are rampant in Mukono. During this program, the NDP Secretary General conveyed greetings on behalf of the management and staff of NDP and also highlighted the reason why the harmony week is of great importance. He reminded the enthusiastic participants that harmony will also improve their living conditions, “If we start thinking and caring about each other regardless of our faiths, our communities will flourish. Our economic condition will also improve”
The community leaders including religious leaders in the area were among the participates. Rev. Mugilis,who is a retired reverend with church of Uganda, Mukono also called upon the community to create peaceful ways of resolving their conflicts wherever they arise. He reaffirmed his commitment to working with all people in the area to ensure peaceful and safe environments. The enthusiastic community members thanked NDP for always bringing such programs closer to the people and encouraging unity.
Henry Lubulwa, the coordinator of InterChange4 peace in Uganda also commended the contribution of NDP and other stakeholders in promoting peace. He highlighted the fruitful partnership between NDP and InterChange4peace which resulted into successful peace events in the community
NDP donated a cow that was roasted and shared with the community as part of the celebration. The teams also received T-shirts and branded balls for future use when having such peace games.
