Together with the Church of Scientology, the Universal Peace Federation in the Netherlands will hold a celebration on Saturday afternoon as part of the UN World Interfaith Harmony Week. “World Interfaith Harmony Week (WIHW) emerged, among other things, from the 'A Common Word' initiative, which started in 2007 and called on Muslim and Christian leaders to enter into dialogue based on two common fundamental religious commandments: love for God and love for neighbor. Particularly from this background, King Abdullah II of Jordan proposed the WIHW to the United Nations in 2010 with the aim of promoting a culture of peace and non-violence,” says FWU director Hans Campman and continues: “The proposal was quickly adopted at the time by the UN General Assembly (resolution A/RES/65/5), declaring the first week of February each year as World Interfaith Harmony Week. During this period, governments, institutions and civil society are called upon to observe this week with various programs and initiatives that would further the aim of the WIHW objectives.”
