On Thursday, March 3, people of faith will gather in front of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Headquarters to draw attention to the over 18,000 people currently in immigration detention and demand the Biden administration shut down all detention centers, end deportations and release all people in immigration detention. The interfaith vigil will also include speakers and a short ceremony coordinated by American Friends Service Committee, Detention Watch Network, FIRM Action, United We Dream and the We Are Home Campaign as a part of the “Communities Not Cages” National Day of Action when nearly 20 actions will take place across the country.
Occurring the same week as Biden’s State of the Union address, and concluding a series of events by immigrant rights advocates, people will express their deep disappointment and frustration over Biden’s broken campaign promises while demanding urgent action be taken for the dignity and rights of immigrants and people seeking asylum.
