. Yemeni Society's Experience With Autism To date, nearly 90% of Yemeni society still does not know what is autism and what is the best ways to deal with the autistic child. It is classified as a kind of intractable psychological conditions or a kind of mental disorder. Ignorance and poverty in Yemen and the illiteracy rate, estimated at 40% of the total population, most of which come in rural areas have had a significant impact on the culture of civil society in Yemen, where many families with a single child feel shame and shame of society as they consider it a scandal or a lack of place in this family among the community. This situation varies depending on the type of child the autistic male child is the least disadvantage to the family in the eyes of society but autistic girl is the more disadvantage and the most severe family as shameful to the society. And families tries to hide their situation Therefore, this family resort to locking this autism child in the house and in the rooms do not go out to the street. Show this autism child does not mix with society (this is in the case that the child is female) and some families ties up the autism children with chains to the wall or trees in the garden of the house closed or restrict the legs restriction of escape or movement (autism children in this case may not see the sun for years) Yemen's delay in keeping pace with the global development has led to a weak culture and education, and this is reflected negatively on all humanitarian fields, including the situation of children with autism. We have been working on advocacy campaign for children with autism in Yemen since December 2017 where we have taken many steps to help save autistic children of which 1 - Opened a center for autism children in Sana'a and worked to furnish this center with basic possibilities . The center currently is taking care of 120 children and offers this service free of charge because of the situation and non-ability of poor families. 2- Implemented 6 workshops for autism children parents to raise the awareness of the autism and teach families how to deal with autism child 3. Celebrated for the World Autism Day, which falls on April 2 for the past two years 4.
