The Baháʼí Hawaiian Language Task Force from the Hawai`i Baháʼí Community, hosted a Hawaiian Language Symposium: “Translating Holy Scriptures with Dr. Puakea Nogelmeier”, on Sunday, February 23, 2025, held at the National Baháʼí Center of the Hawaiian Islands in Honolulu.  The goal of the symposium was to share strategies and techniques used in translating the sacred Scriptures into the Hawaiian Language using Baháʼí and Buddhist Writings as examples.. “so that those powerful Words might be shared with our diverse Hawaiian community and may ring out across these islands in the language of the land.”  About 35 people attended the Symposium, and Dr. Nogelmier spoke and answered questions for almost 2 hours, followed by a demonstration of artwork by well-known and respected Hawaiian artist Meleanna Aluli Meyer.  An interest in translating other sacred scriptures into the Hawaiian language was expressed, and understanding  of the careful process it requires and indeed deserves!   Please contact [email protected] for a copy of the  unedited video of Dr. Nogelmeier’s talk.
