The Interfaith `Ohana of Hawai`i celebrated World Interfaith Harmony Week with a
webinar on February 5, 2025. The event, entitled
“Ancient Sacred
Traditions: Healing Wisdom for Modern Times”
featured respected experts
from three different Indigenous traditions: Dr. Manulani Aluli Meyer from
Hawai’i, Christopher Peters from California, and Dr. Anne Poelina from
Australia. The panel discussion was co-moderated by Audrey Kitagawa,
President/Founder of the International Academy for Multicultural Cooperation
(IAMC) and Ben Bowler, Executive Director of Unity Earth.

The
panelists spoke of the healing wisdom of their ancient Indigenous traditions
and offered their perspectives on how ancient wisdom can help address the many
challenges of modern time. Despite vast geographical and cultural differences, the
speakers shared strikingly similar worldviews. Indigenous Peoples around the
world survived millennia of environmental and social upheavals including
colonialism and cultural genocide because there is an innate flexibility in their
philosophies and strategies. Their deep understanding and respectful connection
to the Earth is rooted in thousands of years of observation, adaptation, and
coexistence with the ever-changing natural world.

The
webinar was broadcast on Zoom and livestreamed on YouTube and Facebook. It was
viewed live by 1,867 participants.
