As part of UN World Interfaith Harmony Week, Mosaic: Interfaith Youth Action hosted Circles of Action, a dynamic interfaith dialogue series that empowers youth to explore the intersection of faith, activism, and social change. On February 2nd, Mosaic held a special session focused on media as a form of social movement, highlighting music and poetry as powerful tools for advocacy and community mobilization. Youth from Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Jain, and Baha’i and no religious backgrounds participated in this engaging session, reflecting on how artistic expression can bring attention to social justice issues and inspire collective action. Through interactive discussions and creative workshops, participants examined historical and contemporary examples of music and poetry used to rally communities, challenge injustices, and foster interfaith solidarity. A key theme of the session was the role of faith traditions in storytelling and artistic activism. Participants shared how their respective religious and spiritual backgrounds have influenced movements for justice, from gospel hymns in the civil rights movement to Sufi poetry advocating for peace. By learning from one another’s traditions, the youth deepened their understanding of the shared ethical teachings that call for justice, compassion, and solidarity across faiths. This session reinforced the idea that media—especially music and spoken word—has the ability to transcend differences, amplify marginalized voices, and unite people around shared values. By empowering youth to see themselves as changemakers through artistic expression, Circles of Action continues to cultivate a new generation of interfaith leaders committed to building a more just and compassionate world.
