People fear darkness because they fear the unknown. Turn on the light and see the familiar room you spend time with your family in each day. Go out when the sun rises and see the familiar park trail you jog in each day – and your fear of those same places in the dark evaporates.
So instead of fearing and subconsciously hating the unknown rituals and customs of your neighbours, make them known to you, and watch your irrational fear evaporate.
