Religion in Conflict: Source of Resolution or Part of the Problem?

Interfaith at William and Mary presents, William and Mary's second annual Interfaith conference, Religion in Conflict. This conference will present conflicts in the world that did not arise from religious differences but somehow became described as such. We will discuss how religion can be used as a means of finding solutions to these conflicts, fostering interfaith understanding and peace in our world. We hope to begin these dialogues at this conference and continue them afterwards through various interfaith initiatives on campus. Speakers and topics include: H.E. Ebrahim Rasool, South African Ambassador to the U.S. “How Interfaith Cooperation Helped Defeat Apartheid” Dr. Sarhang Hamasaeed, United States Institute for Peace “Interfaith Solidarity in the Kurdish Struggle for Identity” Ms. Dena Trugman, Interfaith Youth Core “Interfaith Dialogue as a Vehicle for Personal Growth" With an introduction from our very own President Reveley and an opportunity for Q&A with each speaker. Catered lunch provided. Thanks to Professor Tamara Sonn, W&M Center for Student Diversity, our Office of Community Engagement, Reves Center for International Studies, and William & Mary Student Assembly for making this event possible.

World Interfaith Harmony Day on the 1st February. In partnership with the Multicultural Women's Sewing group, Harmony Day celebrates our diverse, local community with fresh food, fabric and fun activities for everyone to participate in. We will have a few local bread experts making, baking and 'breaking' different breads on the day for all to share. Dance and music performance from around the globe will be featured in a celebration of life, promoting harmony regardless of their faith and religion. Intercultural and Interfaith Dialogue Institute opening

The grand opening ceremony of the Intercultural Dialogue Institute (IDI) Headquarters took place on Monday, January 27 with a ribbon cutting ceremony and featured a keynote speech by Ontario’s Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, Hon. Michael Coteau.

THEY HAD ALSO DECIDED TO HOLD AN INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR WITH THE HELP OF MUSLIM WORLD LEAGUE IN 2012 0R 2013. I will be available in UAE till the end of February 2014.

FoGuang Shan leads interfaith prayer for Chinese New Year 2014

The celebration starts on the 30th of Jan with a full night of festivities starting off with the highly-anticipated lion and dragon dances followed by song and dances with guests. FoGuang Shan also set a Thanksgiving Prayer with greetings from the “God of Wealth” and the New Year’s blessings. The celebration will also see lantern light offering, photo and candy booths, games for the family with a special play area set for the children. A Sutra Transcription will also be present alongside an extensive book display and art exhibit of the children’s paintings. Come Saturday is yet another highlight in the prayer and symposium that will see a convocation of various interfaith groups to welcome the new year. In a news statement, FoGuang Shan Philippines said a roundtable discussion is further set with a workshop on the three acts of goodness – do good deeds, say good words and think good thoughts.

Interreligiöst Fredsforum bjuder på barnverksamheter, musik, story telling workshop, thailändskt blomsterarrangemang, café, stand-upshowen ”Stå upp för gemenskap” med Malin Appeltofft, Patrik Gruczkun och Annelie Abrahamsson, överraskningar och en avslutande ljusmanifestation, ”Ljus på Medis”. Man kan delta i hela programmet eller en del av det! Medborgarplatsen 4, 4 tr. Children’s Day for Harmony

In celebration of the World Interfaith Harmony Week, the Silsilah Forum Davao is organizing a Children’s Day for Harmony. This is a gathering of children to celebrate, play and pray for Harmony and peace. We are expecting about a hundred children of different religion and faith traditions to participate. It will be held at Quezon Elementary School on February 1, 2014. The objectives of the Children’s Day for Harmony are the following: 1. To create a culture of harmony among children of different religion and faith traditions 2. To educate and form the children to be aware of their contribution to promote harmony and peace-building 3. Celebrating harmony through: PRAYER and sharing of gifts and talents
