The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo declares Interfaith Harmony Week! WHEREAS the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is committed to building a community which strengthens and fosters mutual understanding among different faiths, cultures and peoples WHEREAS the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo recognizes that the freedom to observe and practice one's religion, individual conviction, faith or beliefs without fear is a fundamental right, recognized under the Canadian Bill of Rights WHEREAS the United Nations General Assembly recognizes the need to build mutual understanding and interreligious dialogue and establishes World Interfaith Harmony Week as a way to promote harmony between all people regardless of their faith WHEREAS the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo promotes harmony between peoples of diverse faiths and non-faith, acknowledges the discrimination often faced by residents due to their religious beliefs, and recognizes the diverse needs of its residents. THEREFORE NOW, I, Don Scott, Mayor of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, do hereby proclaim February 1st to February 7th, 2019 to be: "United Nations Interfaith Harmony Week"
