To mark the first ever World Interfaith Harmony Week, the committee of Religious NGOs at the United Nations hosted an interfaith breakfast on 3 February 2011 in cooperation with the UN Department of Public Information. Kevin Dance of Passionists International is a member of the Executive Committee.

It is interesting to note that the late Father Luis Dolan C.P. of Argentina was President of the Committee in earlier times and is remembered fondly. By sharing a little food together, we are able to reach each other as fellow searchers for peace and harmony. People from many religions, faith traditions and ethical systems attended.

Special guests included Mr. Kiyotaka Akasaka, Under Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information, HRH Prince Zeid Ra’ad Zeid Al Hussein, Permanent Representative of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to the UN, Mr. Marc Scheuer, Director of the UN Alliance of Civilizations and Mr. Stephen Hanmer,Civil Soceity Partnerships, UNICEF

.

Interfaith Harmony Week aims to encourage people all over the world to look for ways, through their involvement in their churches, mosques, synagogues, temples and other places of worship, to be creative in working against divisions and misunderstandings. Instead, in very human ways, we want to encourage our members to see all the different faiths and belief systems as threads that can weave the world into a new harmony.
