This will take place most Friday afternoons at the community center. Encouraging the power of expression and their ability to share their beliefs, their concerns with others, and work to improve their community, hand in hand with college mentors is the main purpose of this project. Through this program, they will begin their process of becoming global-minded leaders and oriented towards service to others. Our first gathering had individuals from many countries participating, truly making our beginning an encounter in World Citizenship. Everyone was there to learn from each other and gain a better understanding of how we can all live together in a more peace filled society. We began with sharing our names, where we were from and something we liked to do. This was followed by "Where the West Wind Blows" an active game of similarities, and a conversation about what are the spiritual universal qualities that everyone wants in a true friend. The club ended with everyone playing cards and other games and just talking one on one. In the future, there will be more discussions of a spiritual nature, discussions of service projects, and how the club members can be agents of change for the betterment of their communities. Kuhr was one of six students from various religious backgrounds who charmed a diverse group of faith leaders at a Feb. 11 ecumenical luncheon at JDCHS, which hosted the Interfaith Roundtable in celebration of February being Interfaith Month. Those who attended were from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Calvary Baptist Church, Hilltop Methodist, Unification Church, Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City, Greek Orthodox Church, VA Medical Center Chapel and Catholic Community Services. A common narrative among the six students was a first impression of being welcomed to the school. Ikuna Tavake is Tongan, serves as a student ambassador and on student government, and plays lacrosse. He is Mormon, and learned about Juan Diego from cousins who attended before him. He started as a sophomore after being homeschooled, and "it didn’t matter what faith I was," he said. "I really like the idea I could pray before classes – especially if I didn’t study for an exam the night before! Can’t do that in public school. Here it’s okay, and we are all a tight-knit family together."

3rd Interfaith Harmony Week Forum: Tolerance, Forgiveness and Reconciliaton

Start: Friday 7th of February 2014 12:00:00 AM
End: Friday 7th of February 2014 12:00:05 AM
Location: United Nations, New York City, US
The theme of the forum that accompanied our invitations best describes what the organizers, United African Congress and Give Them a Hand Foundation hoped to achieve. Here it is. THEME FOR THE 2014 WORLD INTERFAITH HARMONY WEEK FORUM The United African Congress and Give Them a Hand Foundation are once again planning as they have done in the past two years, to observe the 2014 UN Interfaith Harmony Week with the theme of the program focusing on Tolerance,Forgiveness and Reconciliation. Late last year we mourned collectively the passing of Nelson Mandela, former President of South Africa, the moral conscience and citizen of the world. His epic struggle and principled stand against an evil system to gain equal rights for his people based on one man one vote is legendary. It is, however, his willingness to forgive his jailers and seek peaceful solutions to seemingly intractable problems posed by the apartheid system that will be his everlasting legacy and a lesson to humanity that the core values of the spiritual teachings of the major faiths; love, forgiveness and tolerance are potent weapons against tyranny and inequality. At a time of local and regional conflicts in the Middle East, Asia and Africa with political opportunists and demagogues exploiting ethnic and religious differences to fan the flames of intolerance leading to wholesale massacres of one group or the other, the need for interfaith harmony, as envisioned by the GA resolution in 2010, has never been greater. Faith leaders have a role and a duty to educate and extend a hand across the religious divide and find common ground in the basic principles of each faith which is based on the humanity of all under God. The root causes of many of these conflicts are often poverty, ignorance, lack of economic and political opportunities and denial of basic rights by one group or the other and an appeal to peace and coexistence is not enough unless these issues are also addressed by the faith community. The interfaith forum this year will have TOLERANCE, FORGIVENESS AND RECONCILIATION as its theme and we are hopeful the participants will address these values citing the scriptures in their respective faith traditions. We will also, rather than mourn his death, instead honor Nelson Mandela and follow his example and spread the gospel of tolerance, forgiveness and reconciliation in the promotion of peace and understanding among the peoples of the world.

AND ALSO BY THE GREAT COMMANDMENT OF THE BIBLE WHICH IS ABOUT LOVE .IF PEOPLE FROM DIFFERENT RELIGIONS COULD STOP SEEING OTHERS AS ENEMIES JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE FROM A DIFFERENT RELIGIOUS BACKGROUND THEN THE WORLD WOULD BE A PEACEFUL ONE AS RELIGIOUS DIVERSITY WOULD THEREFORE STAND AS A FACTOR THAT PROMOTES PEACE, UNITY ,LOVE, HARMONY, CHARITY,TOLERANCE,FORGIVENESS,WHICH SHALL PROMOTE DEVELOPMENT AND MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE FOR MAN TO LIVE IN.
