Location: SALAM, 4545 College Oak Drive Sacramento, CA, California, US
Documentary screening + Q & A with the filmmaker David Washburn An American Mosque is a groundbreaking documentary about the first mosque destroyed by arson in United States history and the Americans affected by this horrible hate-crime. This occurred in Yuba City, CA, in 1994. In a broader sense, this documentary is about creating a more inclusive America, giving value to all houses of worship, and combating negative stereotypes of Muslims that have emerged since 9/11. As mosques are increasingly protested, attacked, and vandalized, we need to collectively speak-up: THIS HAS TO STOP! Respect our fellow Americans. WWW.ANAMERICANMOSQUE.COM Filmmaker: David Washburn will attend the screening to lead discussion and answer questions. He is an award-winning filmmaker. For over a decade, he has worked on films & oral history projects that document America’s rich cultural history and bring forward underrepresented stories. He is the recipient of grants from the California Council for the Humanities, among others. David Washburn writes: I’m hosting a film screening at SALAM center on Feb 7, 6:30 – 8:00pm. I’ve recently been appointed as Media Advisor to the Yuba Sutter Interfaith and Cultural Council. In this capacity, I’ve invited members from YSICC to attend the screening, build bridges with Sacramento folks, and discuss the film. Many have already committed to attending. I’d like to make this an interfaith event for the greater Sacramento region.

Location: at St. James Cathedral, Florida, US
The Catholic Diocese of Orlando and the Interfaith Council of Central Florida joined forces to present an Interfaith Prayer Service for Peace, which was held at St. James Cathedral on January 14. Shortly after his arrival in Orlando just over three years ago, Bishop John Noonan began this annual interfaith event. This year, however, he suggested a slight variation: emphasizing personal peace–despite the fact that we live in a world of loss and pain. A major factor in his choosing such an emphasis was the much-publicized death of Pastor Isaac Hunter, son of the Rev. Joel and Becky Hunter
