Bridges of Faith is commemorating World Interfaith Harmony Week in January and February, 2014 with a series of interfaith events taking place in Abbotsford. It is intended to facilitate the building of new and stronger interfaith relationships, the celebration of our community’s diverse faith traditions, and the fostering of a culture of authentic and respectful interfaith sharing. The Interfaith Music Concert will include live musical performances by musicians from different faith and belief backgrounds.

CCEJ is thrilled to announce that Reverend James Lawson Jr., prominent leader of the civil rights movement and one of the central architects of the non-violence movement in the United States, will bring his message of non-violence and equal rights to CCEJ's 23rd annual Interfaith/Intercultural Breakfast. On the eve of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s assassination, he called Lawson "the leading theorist and strategist of nonviolence in the world." Lawson has advocated for nonviolent social change for nearly seven decades, beginning with the first Freedom rides in the 1940s. In 1951, Lawson served 14 months in prison after declaring himself a conscientious objector to the Korean War and refusing to accept either a student or ministerial deferment. After his incarceration, he lived three years in India, studying the principles of nonviolence taught by Gandhi. Upon returning to the U.S. in 1957, Lawson enrolled as a divinity student at Oberlin College. He met Dr. King, who recruited Lawson to assist with the civil rights movement. Lawson moved south, transferred to Vanderbilt University, and trained countless student volunteers in Gandhian tactics of nonviolent direct action including Diane Nash and John Lewis. His work resulted in his expulsion from Vanderbilt University. In 1974, Lawson moved to Los Angeles to serve as the pastor of Holman United Methodist Church. During the decades since, he has relentlessly spoken out against racism, war and injustice. Throughout his career and into retirement, Lawson has actively supported various human rights advocacy campaigns, including immigrant rights and opposition to war and militarism. He also served as a distinguished visiting professor at Vanderbilt University.

In the preparation of WALK OF HOPE 2015 lead by Sri Mumtaz Ali (Sri M) from the southern tip of India to the north, over 6,000 kilometers and a walkathon covered in over 15 months time during 2015, we at Manav Ekta Mission are organizing a series of Peace Education activities at schools. Please visit [www.walkofhope.in]. The walkathon shall essentially be to address Peace and Harmony, Human Oneness, Human Happiness and Harmony with Nature. World Interfaith Harmony Week 2014 shall be celebrated by us by organizing essay competitions, debates, painting contests, community services, and a pledge to support peace and harmony at all levels and at all times.

The 2011 Census revealed that Australia is becoming more religious in a religiously diverse way. In such a multi-religous and multicultural context, what is the role of religion, religious communities and their spiritual leaders in imaginging a common future for Australia? Are civic and social leaders involved in imagining a common future for a multi-religious and multifaith Australia? In collaboration with RMIT University Chaplaincy, Religions for Peace Australia presents a public lecture by Emeritus Professor Joseph Camilleri on this significant topic. The session will be chaired by Ms Patricia Collett, Executive Director of United Nations Association of Australia (Victorian Division). Joseph Camilleri is Emeritus Professor of International Relations at La Trobe University. He has written and lectured extensively on international relations, governance and globalisation, human rights, North-South relations, international organisations, the United Nations, and the Asia-Pacific region. Emeritus Professor Camilleri is actively engaged in international research, education and advocacy on issues of human rights, civilisation dialogue, global governance reform, peace and security. He is the recipient of St Michael's Award for Distinguished Service to the Community, and past Australian President of the International Christian Peace Movement, Pax Christi.

A series of interfaith bridging events with the theme of "Gendered and Interfaith Relationships" coordinated by Bridges of Faith to commemorate World Interfaith Harmony Week in Abbotsford, Canada. In the lead-up to the official week we are organizing three tours of places of worship to encourage cross-cultural/faith learning, including a Mennonite Christian church (Jan. 13), a Sikh temple (Jan. 19), and a First Nations longhouse (Jan. 22). We are then kicking off the first week of February with a large-scale Interfaith Dialogue on January 31st, in which panelists, a keynote speaker, and participants will explore how religion and culture construct gender roles in society, and at how to deeply live our faith while respecting differences. The evening of January 31st ends with a multi-faith music concert. The dialogue and concert are followed by a movie screening of Life of Pi with discussion (Feb. 4), and we end with a community pancake breakfast to facilitate unity in rounding off WIHW. We expect up to 250 direct participants, and will reach an wider audience through promotions that support community building and mutual understanding/respect. In Feb. 2013 Rimon held the first Interfaith Forum on Spiritual Views of Death and the Afterlife. Upon conclusion of the event there was a resounding request for another opportunity to delve more deeply into this topic. This 2nd Interfaith Forum will have two parts. Part 1 will include Jewish, Buddhist, Christian, Muslim and Hindu clergy/representatives to present their tradition's views in a question and answer format with a moderator and also in a community conversation. Topics to be discussed will include spiritual preparation for death, the journey of the soul after death, rituals and traditions around preparation of the body of the deceased. Part 2 will include smaller break-out discussion groups led by experts in a variety of fields pertaining the following topics: hospice care/medical and pastoral insights, the grief process, support systems for the bereaved, the home funeral movement.
