The American Legion of Richmond County hosted its annual Four Chaplains Interfaith breakfast Sunday morning at LiGreci's Staaten, West Brighton. The program brought together veterans' groups from across the borough and honored the heroic acts of four Army chaplains who sacrificed their lives during World War II. The event posthumously paid tribute to the Rev. George L. Fox, a Methodist minister; the Rev. Clark V. Poling, a Dutch Reformed minister; the Rev. John P. Washington, a Catholic priest; and Alexander Goode, a rabbi.

Members of Arizona Army National Guard Chaplain Corps toured the new Latter-day Saint Temple here, Feb. 8 in an effort to expand interfaith diversity and better support their soldiers’ religious needs. While LDS church buildings are always open to the general public, LDS Temples are only open to the public for a brief period before they are dedicated making this a unique opportunity for the chaplains. “Our mission is to provide and perform for the religious needs of our soldiers and airmen in the state of Arizona,” said Col. Elmon Krupnik the senior chaplain for the Guard. “Touring the temple helps us understand our LDS soldiers better. It helps make the connection better and determine our soldiers needs better. Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, Baha’i and other faith leaders participated in a joint prayer service in Nevada on Feb. 1, urging for divine intervention in view of persistent drought conditions in Western United States. Sparks Nevada Stake President Joseph E. Johnson served as host of the service held in the Sparks Nevada Stake Center. “Our belief is that prayers are answered and connect us with God. Drawing on Professor Casanova’s broader project on the Jesuits and globalization, this seminar will address how religions have moved from the Mosaic monotheistic distinction of "true" and "false" religion and the related system of classification of one "true religion" in contradistinction to all others—"schismatics" (Orthodox Christians), "heretics" (Protestants and other sects), "infidels" (Jews and Muslims) and "pagans" (idolatrous heathens)—to a global system of religious pluralism and interreligious dialogue, by revisiting the Chinese Rites Controversy and other Jesuit encounters with the religious "other." This workshop is the first of three sponsored this spring by the Normative Orders Collaborative, an interdisciplinary and international effort to foster thinking about moral change and moral innovation. The collaborative is a tri-lateral effort wherein Georgetown University and Fudan University (Shanghai) will work with and extend the pioneering efforts of the Cluster of Excellence on the Formation of Normative Orders at the Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany. The centerpiece of Georgetown’s contribution to this effort in the coming year will be a full-year faculty and graduate student seminar on Moral Innovation that will be led in 2014-15 by Professors Henry Richardson and Terry Pinkard.
