Understanding and Misunderstanding of Islam

Start: Sunday 3rd of February 2013 12:00:11 AM
End: Sunday 3rd of February 2013 12:00:15 AM
Location: "Zaccaeus Little Church" in Mapo-Ku, Seoul, KR
Final arrangements are now in hand to organize a lecture on at a local church, "Zaccaeus Little Church" in Mapo-Ku, Seoul on Sunday, 3 February 2013, following the regular Sunday Service. This event will run from 11:00 a.m. through 3:00p.m. covering a number of sub-activities, and the lecture by Imam A. Rahman Lee Ju Hwa will commence at 1:00 p.m. followed by a Q&A session and discussions. The Chief Pastor of the Church is Professor/Dr. Kyoung-Jae Kim, a leading scholar of theology and a prolific author on religious issues who believes in the power of interfaith dialogue. Forming the audience would be members of the church, adherents of other religions, ordinary citizens numbering about 80 in total. There will also be a brief musical presentation upon the end of Imam's presentation. The event as it is being finalized represents efforts by the Korea Society for UN Initiative for Peace among Religions KSUNIPAR) with the support of the Zacchaeus Little Church to disseminate the intent of the UN resolution, A/RES/65/5 in Korea and thus to promote a new culture of peace in the universe of religions. This event has a historical significance as the two religions in question have had no interactions of any kind between them since Islam was first introduced to Korea in the early 1950s. It is our conviction that without the strength of the UN resolution in question, the initial contact for dialogue and attempt at harmonious relationships between the two great Abrahamic religions would have still remained as a mirage. We at KSUNIPAR realize that we are only at an embryonic stage of a long journey full of potential shortfalls, risks and disappointments but remain convinced that a beginning, however humble and unsteady they may seem, must be made and nurtured along. Yoon-Yul Kim Representative Korea Society for UN Initiative for Peace among Religions (KSUNIPAR)
