The United African Congress and Give Them a Hand Foundation have been observing the World Interfaith Harmony Week annually since 2012 held in New York at the United Nations by bringing together faith leaders from Islam, Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism and Hinduism as well as indigenous faith systems to dialogue and find ways to keep the spirit of collaboration throughout the year in an effort to promote harmony and peace among themselves. This year were joined by Permanent Observer of the Holy See as well as faith leaders from Unitarian Universalist Church and the Bahai faith. The event at the UN was sponsored by the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Sierra Leone co-sponsored by the Permanent Representatives of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Republic of Belize to the United Nations. The program started with a short prayer in each of the participating faiths. After the welcoming remarks by the Permanent Representative of Sierra Leone to the UN followed by the chairman of the United African Congress, each of the faith leaders addressed the subthemes of peace, gender equality, mental health and wellbeing poverty and environmental preservation-themes in the subheading of our program which we considered essential for promoting peace and harmony. This year we also a panel of youth participants who addressed same issues in the context of their faith which they hold dear. The Broadway producer, composer and singer Russell Daisy composed a song for this occasion "My faith, your faith, our faith-one faith" and sang it to a loud ovation from the audience. We also had the UN international singers and the BLIA choir providing the musical interlude. We concluded the event with a pledge to keep the collaboration going the remainder of the year through a program by each faith organization inviting each other to their respective houses of worship to further strengthen the collaboration in the pursuit of harmony, mutual understanding and peace. We dedicated this program to the memory of the environmentalist and campaigner for human rights and gender equality, the Nobel laureate, the late Professor Wangari Mathai.
