The Five Harmonies and Humanistic Buddhism

The United Nations Interfaith Harmony Week Online Forum was held on February 28, 2020. The Book Club for the Youth Scholars of Fo Guang Shan London hosted this online forum. A total of 24 participated, and the representatives spanning from Britain, the United States and France, from Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam and Judaism were invited. In particular, Venerable You Wang and Venerable Man Kuang, who are the UN NGO representatives of the BLIA were asked to make the opening speech. Besides, five scholars from the fields of Buddhist studies and anthropology, as well as ten members of the Book Club for the Youth Scholars were invited to attend. This forum is based on Master Hsing Yun’s Buddhist thought on earth and the concept of the "Five Harmonies". The two-hour brainstorming session  consisted of two stages, which were scholar and expert discussions on the "Five Harmonies" and talks on multi-religional "Harmony" respectively. Facing the frontiers of contemporary human society, the session analyzed the connotations of Buddhism on earth and the harmonious thought of multiple religions from multiple perspectives, contributing to world peace, the purification of human hearts, and the sustainable development of human society.
