In honour of World Interfaith Harmony Week 2021, a panel of four dynamic women from Jewish, Muslim, Catholic, and Indigenous backgrounds will speak about the changing concept of race from the perspective of their lives and beliefs. "Talking about Race" will be held online on Thursday evening, 4 February, at 7 p.m. This VMS-initiated event is co-sponsored by UVic Multifaith / Student Wellness, and the Community Partnership Network, a program of the Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria (ICA). She is a leader of the Hillel On Campus UVic club, where students from all backgrounds are welcome to participate, celebrate Jewish holidays and socialize. Zara Chaudhry is a Muslim Pakistani student studying Biology & Psychology at UVIC and is the Youth Director at Masjid Al-Iman in Victoria. She has experience facilitating interfaith and intergenerational dialogue on Islamophobia, racial justice and youth leadership. Sachi Ihara is a Japanese-American- Irish-Canadian member of the Victoria workforce with a degree in Integrative Biology from UC Berkeley. Sachi was an active member of Newman Hall-Holy Spirit Catholic parish and UC Berkeley Student Ministry during her time in Berkeley. Natalya Child, Tlakwe?’ganaxw, is a member of the Kwakiutl (Kwagiulth) First Nation currently living as a guest on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the W?SÁNE? First Peoples. She is currently a first-year student taking the Indigenous Studies program at UVIC. As a youth ambassador and cultural advocate, Natalya has previously spoken at conferences and workshops both regionally and internationally including the annual First Nations Education Conference in Vancouver, the Native American Indigenous Studies Association Conference in New Zealand, and the Launch Event for the Year of Indigenous Languages at the UN General Assembly in New York City. MC Steven Baileys is the Community Development Coordinator at the Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria (ICA). Steven coordinates the Community Partnership Network (CPN) - a network of more than 300 businesses and agencies committed to diversity and inclusion.
