Get ready to learn more about your neighbours, and help the world become more unified through World Interfaith Harmony Week!

World Interfaith Harmony Week was unanimously adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on October 20, 2010. It takes place the first week of February every year.  In Edmonton, World Interfaith Harmony Week is organized by the Edmonton Interfaith Centre for Education and Action, a charitable organization that develops and sponsors many diverse programs to create a more peaceful, harmonious and respectful community.   Guy Blood, president of EICEA, explains that “When we stay exclusively within our own familiar community, we tend to forget that there are many different communities with different world views. There’s a need for us to understand each other, because we share space.  Ignorance of others can create animosities based on stereotypes.“   The chair of the WIHW committee, Len Gierach, explains that “In times of ever greater polarization these events help build safer and caring communities. Being curious about, and understanding our neighbours’ faith perspective/spirituality allows us to become better neighbours. Who doesn’t want great neighbours?”
