Held on the first day of World Interfaith Harmony Week, the UNITY EARTH New York Convergence was a leadership and visioning conference that brought together over 100 interfaith and faith-based leaders, event producers and more to create increased opportunities for collaboration and impact, with a particular focus on the co-design of the UNITY EARTH Road to 2020 event series. Hosted at 4W43 near Times Square, the conference came to a climax with the Opening Ceremony for World Interfaith Harmony Week hosted in partnership with Compassion Games and OneSpirit Learning Alliance, as well as local and visiting Indigenous Elders. The Opening Ceremony was broadcast live on social media and distributed via the innovative SINE Network (Synerized Impact Network Exchange). EVENT RECAP After a First Nations welcome from Ramapough-Lenape Chief Dwaine Perry and Hereditary Dakota Chief Phil Lane Jr, scene setting by UNITY EARTH Executive Director Ben Bowler and scholar / convenor Dr. Kurt Johnson, plus inspiring words from our local and international guests, we gathered for strategic design and action circles across three areas of focus: GLOBAL: UNITY EARTH Road to 2020 international event series NATIONAL: Caravan of Unity Across America in September 2020 NEW YORK: Events in and around the New York area 2019-2020 All three circles were rich with collective vision and action steps to generate maximum impact and increase cohesion between partners and initiatives, and the overall feeling was one of great anticipation for what we can do together as a network with shared values and missions. After lunch catered by Eat Off Beat refugee chefs, and a movement and sound practice with Karuna, we completed and shared insights from our design circles before coming together for a powerful UN World Interfaith Harmony Week opening ceremony led by Jon Ramer, Diane Berke, Chief Phil Lane Jr. and others.
