World Interfaith Harmony Week

In by zeinab

World Interfaith Harmony Week takes place each year during the first week of February (February 1–7). This week encourages people of all faiths to respect one another and live in peace. It was started in 2010 and is recognized by the United Nations. The goal is simple: bring people together, no matter what they believe. Even though the week has passed, we can practice interfaith harmony all year long. Here are a few ways to take part: • Watch online events or read about interfaith efforts. • Talk about shared values like love, kindness, and respect. • Learn about a faith or culture that is different from your own. Small actions can help build understanding and unity in our communities.

Gender Equality Initiative’ during Interfaith Harmony Week

In by zeinab

Students of our Campus visited the City Railway Station as part of the school’s ‘Gender Equality Initiative’ during Interfaith Harmony Week. The trip offered our young learners a first-hand glimpse into the workings of an all-women-operated railway station. Interacting with railway officials and observing real-time operations helped students understand the roles, responsibilities, and skills required in this vital sector. They were introduced to diverse career pathways, safety mechanisms, and the coordinated teamwork that keeps thousands of travellers moving safely every day. The visit not only broadened their learning beyond textbooks but also inspired many to dream confidently about future careers, especially encouraging girls to envision themselves in leadership and decision-making roles.

Interfaith breakfast brings communities together in Woking To mark UN Interfaith Harmony Week, Woking People of Faith, in partnership with Surrey Minority Ethnic Forum, hosted a warm and welcoming Interfaith Breakfast at Karak Chai, bringing together 24 people from diverse backgrounds – including Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Bahá’í and no-faith participants. More than just a shared meal, the morning created a relaxed space for meaningful conversations, new connections, and learning from one another’s experiences of faith, belief, and community life. The gathering began with a short reflection from Phil Simpson, Chair of Woking People of Faith, who invited everyone to think about one way they could bring harmony into their own lives and communities through their faith or values. This simple question sparked thoughtful discussions around the table as people enjoyed breakfast together. The conversations also touched on wider community issues, including youth engagement and grassroots community work, with participants appreciating the opportunity to meet others making a difference locally. Interfaith Harmony

In by zeinab

As we enter the month of Ramadan, we are reminded of a long-standing tradition at Sufidar Temple. Located in Chennai’s Mylapore neighbourhood, the temple is not just a place of worship but also a symbol of interfaith harmony. One of its most remarkable traditions is serving iftar during Ramadan, and this isn’t a new trend, but a decades-old practice that reflects communal unity, compassion, and shared faith beyond religious boundaries. At Sufidar Temple, Iftar During Ramadan Is A Tradition Blending elements of Sufi-inspired devotion with inclusive spiritual practices, the Sufidar temple has built a reputation for welcoming people from all communities. The temple trust serves iftar meals during the holy month of Ramadan as part of a long-standing tradition of interfaith service that started almost 40 years ago by Dada Ratanchand. According to Siasat, he was a Hindu refugee from Sindh who moved to Chennai after the partition in 1947. He not only laid the foundation of their temple but also started the tradition of …

Cooking as a Catalyst for Peace The session utilized an innovative, interactive methodology: participants were divided into three culinary teams—Appetizers, Main Course, and Dessert. As they prepared traditional Yemeni dishes like Shafoot, Zurbian, and Bint Al-Sahn, they engaged in deep discussions about regional variations in customs and the universal values of coexistence. “We wanted to create a space where diversity is viewed as …

World Interfaith Harmony Week: A season to give

In by zeinab

For one, it’s the UN World Interfaith Harmony Week. We have a strong tie to this event: in 2019, the CTII were the joint recipients of its prize, for our “Prayers in the City” held in Elsies River (together with FHLM), a grassroots version of what had been a regular annual event. (The banner picture for our site is from this event). Secondly, we have launched a 2-month fundraising campaign “CTII Schools Project 2026” on the BackaBuddy platform in which we hope to enable our very successful Youth Interfaith Program (YIIP) to run this year. This is a new step for us; up until now our funds have been via private donations. We now want to expand our reach to meet the demand for interfaith education and organisation, and actively take up our responsibility as a competent and empowered NGO. Our goal is to raise R120,000 to make the two-year Schools Program possible for 70 Grade 10 and 11 learners in 2026. It costs …

Faith as a Bridge, Not a Barrier

In by zeinab

Faith as a Bridge, Not a Barrier Faith should never be a source of division or conflict. At its core, every faith tradition calls us to love, to act justly, to show mercy, and to care for one another. These shared values remind us that our common humanity is far greater than our differences. When faith is practiced with understanding and compassion, it becomes a bridge bringing people together across beliefs, cultures, and communities. Peace is strengthened when faith is used to heal wounds, promote dialogue, and inspire service, not to exclude or harm. Let our beliefs reflect in our actions. Let faith make us more humane, more tolerant, and more committed to peace.

“Shalom from Kolkata”: A Synagogue Visit with Future Christian Leaders: Celebrating World Interfaith Harmony Week Today, I had the profound privilege of standing at the intersection of faiths. Honoured of guiding a wonderful group of first year seminary students through the historic Beth El and Maghen David Synagogues . We dove into the basics of #Judaism from the sacred words of the Torah to the beautiful traditions of the Jewish festivals. We traced the footsteps of the #Kolkata #Jewish community that once thrived here, leaving behind a legacy of faith and grandeur. We talked about our shared roots, our common texts, and the importance of respect. This is what interfaith activism looks like. It is not about agreeing on everything. It is about being curious, not defensive. It is about listening to each other’s stories. As an interfaith educator, moments like these remind me why engaging in #Interfaith matters. We weren’t just tourists admiring the exquisite marble …

World Interfaith Harmony Week

When the United Nations launched World Interfaith Harmony Week in 2010, it set out to highlight the shared values that connect faith traditions; love of God, commitment to goodness, and care for one another. Sixteen years later, observing this week feels different. In a world shaped by ongoing crises and unsettling news, the challenge we face goes beyond dialogue or mutual understanding. It calls for solidarity and cooperation for the common good, especially amid the rise of religious nationalism worldwide. This reflection resonates deeply with our recent Harmony in Action – Gus Dur School for Peace VI workshop, where for two weeks, participants engaged with the theme of Freedom of Belief and Religion (FoBR). Together, we explored how social cohesion is built and sustained through a shared sense of solidarity, intentional multiculturalism, and the everyday practice of being good neighbours, while grounding these values in peacebuilding and eco-resilience efforts at the community level. Grounded in lived realities — from cities and institutions to faith communities and public spaces — this dialogue reminded us that interfaith leadership is not only about principles, but about listening, ethical responsibility, and the courage to engage across difference. 💭 At a time of growing polarization, creating spaces for sincere dialogue is an act of leadership in itself — and a necessary step toward protecting human dignity and building more just and inclusive societies. 👏 Thank you to everyone who took part in this rich, thoughtful, and meaningful exchange, with special thanks to our Leader, @oceane.chabanol , and team member, @si.lombardo for introducing our speakers.

World Interfaith Harmony Week

In by zeinab

Building Bridges, Defending Dignity, Deepening Peace At a time when division is loud and suspicion travels fast, faith communities must become the loudest voices for peace, justice, and shared humanity. World Interfaith Harmony Week is not just a calendar observance – it is a moral responsibility. At the Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC), Nigeria, we believe that peaceful coexistence is not optional; it is essential for national stability, social progress, and human dignity. Our faith teaches us that diversity is not a threat – it is a divine design. And where there is difference, there must be dialogue; where there is misunderstanding, there must be education; and where there is hate, there must be principled resistance through peace. This week, MPAC calls on Nigerians of all faiths to rise above stereotypes, reject bigotry, and commit to mutual respect. Interfaith harmony is not about blurring religious identities – it is about strengthening them through understanding, justice, and compassion. We urge religious …

This week, we recognise World Interfaith Harmony Week (1–7 February 2026), a United Nations–endorsed initiative that promotes peace, understanding, and unity among people of all faiths and beliefs. It reminds us of the importance of our shared values—kindness, respect, empathy, and gratitude—while celebrating the diverse perspectives that shape our world. At KGPS, embracing diversity is central to who we are. Throughout the week, students engaged in activities that explored different cultures, beliefs, and traditions, reflecting on how we can show respect for others, practise kindness in our actions, and demonstrate empathy each day. By nurturing an inclusive and respectful environment, we continue to strengthen our school community and our connections with one another.

World Interfaith Harmony Week 🌏✨

In by zeinab

This week is about something pretty simple (and pretty powerful): respect, understanding, and finding common ground across different beliefs, cultures, and ways of seeing the world. You don’t have to follow a religion to be part of it. You don’t have to agree on everything. You just have to be open to listening, learning, and treating each other with care. In a world that’s often loud and divided, choosing kindness and curiosity is a big deal 💛 Let’s celebrate what connects us — compassion, community, and peace.

A Prayer for Interfaith Harmony

In by zeinab

A quiet prayer for open hearts, deeper respect, and unity in our beautifully diverse world. #interfaithharmony #prayer #wheatonfranciscans A Prayer for Interfaith Harmony God of All People, You created every person in Your image. Thank you for the wonderful variety of spiritual paths and beliefs that enrich our world. Open our hearts and minds to the many ways faith can be expressed. Teach us to respect those who pray and worship in ways different from our own. Break down the barriers that divide us, and fill our hearts with compassion, kindness, curiosity, and patience. Remind us that symbols of faith hold no meaning if our hearts are closed. Guide us toward harmony and a willingness to work together for justice, understanding, and peace. May we always remember that a person’s way of life reflects their faith more clearly than words, rituals, or forms of worship. Help us to be instruments of Your love and tenderness, embodying true unity.

Interfaith March

Around 200 people responded to the call from three leaders of Muslim, Jewish, and Catholic places of worship in the Gratte-ciel district of Villeurbanne. The initiative was intended to be “civic, apolitical, and peaceful, undertaken by believers.” Along the way, there were many encounters. Side by side, Djillali, a Muslim, and Philippe, a Jew, are talking. They walk in step, sharing stories of their origins. Just a few minutes ago, they were strangers. They came, one from a neighboring district, the other from further away than the metropolis, as members of the Errahma mosque and the Keren or synagogue. Djillali grew up in a family that always lived alongside people of other religions and cultures. “We are the enemy of what we don’t know. We must meet. These are communities of peace. There is a problem in the Middle East, but this is France.” Philippe attends all the gatherings, “We cannot let this hatred escalate.” They clearly heeded the invitation …

Our students attended an interfaith panel featuring leaders from the Bahai, Jain, Sikh, and Jewish faiths. They also took part in an interfaith field trip, visiting the Maghain Aboth Synagogue, Abdul Gaffoor Mosque, and the Khalsa Dharmak Sabha Gurudwara of the Sikh faith. The week culminated in a wonderful Interfaith Assembly, thoughtfully hosted by our Grade 2 and 3 students. Through these experiences, our students were able to appreciate the beauty within different faith traditions and gain a deeper understanding of how Singapore promotes peace and tolerance within its diverse society.

Azerbaijan’s ongoing role in convening dialogue across faiths, cultures, and communities offers an important example of what is possible when respect and partnership are prioritized. Harmony does not happen by chance. It happens when we show up, listen, and commit to one another.

World Interfaith Harmony Week

In by zeinab

World Interfaith Harmony Week (1st-7th February) is an opportunity to promote and celebrate understanding and respect between those with different faiths and those with none, under the banner “love of the good and love of the neighbour”. Respect and compassion come from understanding, and global learning can give us the tools to achieve this by encouraging us to walk in the shoes of another and consider multiple perspectives and experiences. In a world which seems to be dominated by division, it is important to remind ourselves of the many things we have in common. Practices and ideals are shared across many faiths in all parts of the world, and exploring these similarities is a great place to start. At CDEC, we have a wide range of resources to support the teaching of RE and worldviews through a global learning lens – get in touch with us to find out more.

World Interfaith Harmony Week

In by zeinab

From February 1-7, each year, the world celebrates the Interfaith Harmony Week. What is the Interfaith Harmony Week all about? According to the United Nations (UN) The World Interfaith Harmony Week is based on the pioneering work of The Common Word initiative. This initiative, which started in 2007, called for Muslim and Christian leaders to engage in a dialogue based on two common fundamental religious Commandments; Love of God, and Love of the Neighbour, without nevertheless compromising any of their own religious tenets. The Two commandments are at the heart of the three Monotheistic religions and therefore provide the most solid theological ground possible. Last CARP Meeting, Viorica, our HTG-EUME Empower Team Leader to Fier shared about the Interfaith Harmony Week which is a relevant topic worthy talking about. Thank you all for coming. Hope you take something from the talk. We hope to see you again next week. ✨

May our diversity strengthen our unity, and may harmony move from intention into action. You might like to join me in appreciating all that interfaith harmony has to offer us!

Interfaith Harmony Week centers on two simple commitments: love of the good, and love of one’s neighbor. Across our network, we see that lived out daily, not in grand gestures, but in small, steady acts of care. Local leaders listening to the needs of their communities, learning the names of their neighbors, welcoming differences, and choosing care. This is how trust is built over time. This is what harmony looks like in practice.

Action is where values leave the page and enter daily life. Across the URI network, today’s reflections showed that action does not have to be grand to be meaningful. Members spoke about simple, intentional projects—peace walks, shared meals, dialogue circles, community trainings, and green spaces—that create room for trust, healing, and cooperation across faiths and cultures. These ideas are grounded in real communities, shaped by local needs, and led by people who choose to act together rather than alone. What stood out most was the spirit behind these responses. Action, for our network, is relational. It begins by inviting someone from a different tradition to co-lead, to plan together, to listen first, and to build something shared. Whether addressing election-related tensions, environmental healing, or interfaith understanding among youth, these efforts reflect a commitment to turning dialogue into lived practice. This is how interfaith cooperation moves forward—one small, practical action at a time, rooted in courage, collaboration, and care. What is …

Some of the most powerful peacebuilding begins with a simple invitation: come work with me. In today’s World Interfaith Harmony Week conversation, members across the URI network shared the projects they are building right now—and, more importantly, their willingness to open those efforts to others. What emerged was a picture of collaboration as a living practice: communities organizing post-election dialogues to reduce tensions, young people transforming cycles of violence into pathways for leadership, and local groups restoring land as a way to heal relationships and rebuild trust. These reflections revealed collaboration as an intentional choice to move beyond working side by side toward working together. Members spoke about sharing responsibility, learning across differences, and creating spaces where diverse skills, traditions, and experiences strengthen the whole. Collaboration, in this sense, is not just coordination—it is a commitment to collective care and shared impact. At URI, we nurture a culture where collaboration is how peace takes root and grows. Nurturing the Culture of Curious Conversations Around the URI Network, we’ve seen firsthand that peace doesn’t start with an agreement, it starts with a question. Today, our community engaged in conversation about curiosity. Curiosity is acting as a powerful catalyst for respect. We found that our members are eager to move beyond surface-level facts to build a true culture of curious conversations. From expressing a heartfelt desire to connect with traditions outside their own, like learning the significance of festivals, to diving deep into the theological differences and reasoning behind specific practices. This journey isn’t just about understanding others; we discovered that exploring the nuances of different rituals and beliefs provides a mirror, offering us deeper insights into our own values and faith. By embracing these complexities, we transform “the unknown” into a shared space of learning and mutual respect. 🌍✨ By nurturing this environment, we move from mere “tolerance” to a true, heartfelt connection where every tradition is a …

Today, voices from across the URI network shared stories of courage. Members spoke of moments when they entered spaces where they were the minority, stood beside someone of a different faith, or chose to speak when silence would have been easier. Fear was often present at first, but it did not have the final word. What followed in these stories was a shift. Curiosity replaced hesitation. Listening opened doors. Acts of respect and genuine presence turned unfamiliar moments into encounters of trust and belonging. In classrooms, places of worship, community gatherings, and dialogue spaces, courage revealed itself not as fearlessness, but as the willingness to stay open and human. Again and again, members reflected that courage grows when we act from empathy and values, when we defend dignity, and when we make space for those who are too often unseen. These moments shaped lives, relationships, and lasting commitments to interfaith dialogue and peacebuilding. The courage of the URI network lives …

World Interfaith Harmony Week February 2-7, 2026 Our world needs HARMONY the power to heal divisions and bring people together. This week, the UN observes World Interfaith Harmony Week, established in 2010 to promote understanding among all faiths and beliefs. This isn’t just ceremonies it’s a call to action for YOU to become a peacemaker. Our diversity isn’t a problem; it’s a blessing. When we open our hearts to learning from one another, ignorance becomes understanding, fear becomes friendship, and division becomes unity. As Muslims, interfaith harmony is part of our faith. The Quran declares: “We created you peoples and tribes that you may KNOW one another” (49:13). Allah commands us to treat all people with kindness and justice (60:8), and reminds us “There shall be no compulsion in religion” (2:256). Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) exemplified this—making peace treaties, protecting places of worship, and honoring all human souls. Your Challenge This Week: 1. LEARN about a different faith tradition 2. CONNECT …

World Interfaith Harmony Week: Empowering Youth, Protecting the Planet, and Navigating the Digital Frontier

In by zeinab

The first week of February, designated by the United Nations as World Interfaith Harmony Week, serves as a powerful reminder that global justice and peace are unattainable without a shared commitment to human rights and cross-cultural understanding. At the Roya Institute for Global Justice, we believe this week should move beyond symbolic gestures to address the pressing challenges of our time through four critical lenses: The Vital Role of Youth in Peacebuilding: Young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow but the active agents of change today. Empowering youth to lead interfaith and intercultural dialogues is essential for dismantling prejudice and building sustainable peace. Global Peace through Solidarity: Peace is more than the absence of conflict; it is the presence of justice. We call for a global solidarity that transcends religious and national boundaries to protect the most vulnerable populations. Religious Leadership and Environmental Stewardship: We recognize the profound responsibility of religious leaders in addressing the climate crisis. Protecting our environment is a moral …

Songs and Stories of Compassion

In by zeinab

This recorded session invites us into the heart of community life in Cameroon, where women gather to sustain one another—and their wider communities—through song, story, and compassionate action. Rooted in diverse cultural and spiritual traditions, this offering reveals how sacred space is not confined to formal places of worship, but is created wherever people come together with intention, care, and shared purpose. Through songs that carry memory and meaning, stories passed from one generation to the next, and everyday acts of compassion, these women demonstrate how faith is lived collectively—woven into daily rhythms of family, village, and community life. Their voices remind us that sacred space often arises through relationship, through listening deeply to one another, and through responding with kindness to the needs of others. Rather than a presentation or teaching, this session is an act of witnessing. Viewers are invited to listen with open hearts, to learn from the wisdom embedded in lived experience, and to reflect on …
