THE 2nd Melaka Harmony Week is set to take place at several locations here from today until Feb 7.

The event, held in conjunction with the annual World Interfaith Harmony Week, is jointly organised by the Village Community Management Council (MPKK) of Kubu, Melaka Harmony Heritage, Ganasia Craft Market and several other organisations.

Kubu MPKK chairman Danny Sim Yong Peng said various activities had been planned for the week-long event such as a book exchange programme, calligraphy sharing session and handmade craft exhibition by six handicraft teachers.

“I would like to invite the whole community to participate in this event regardless of their religion or race.

Present was Melaka Harmony Heritage patron Lars Lindbeck.

The main event for this year’s programme is the Harmony Festival which will be held at Lot 831 (former Pay Fong Primary School) in Jalan Kubu tomorrow.

The World Interfaith Harmony Week was first proposed at the United Nations General Assembly by King Abdullah II of Jordan on Sept 23, 2010.

The proposal was unanimously adopted by the UN on Oct 20 and it was agreed that the first week of February every year would be observed as World Interfaith Harmony Week
