Interfaith Prayer Breakfast features Muslim chaplain SMITHFIELD, R.I. – R. David Coolidge, Associate University Chaplain for the Muslim Community at Brown University, will be the keynote speaker at Bryant University’s 17th Annual Interfaith Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, Feb. 7, 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. in the Stepan Grand Hall of the Bello Center for Information and Technology on the Bryant campus, 1150 Douglas Pike. The Interfaith Prayer Breakfast, patterned after the annual National Prayer Breakfast held in Washington, D.C., is designed to give attendees an inspirational hour of music, prayer, and a spiritual message. Chaplain Coolidge will speak about "Faith and Citizenship in Turbulent Times." He converted to Islam during his sophomore year at Brown and went on to have extensive training in Islamic sacred texts, researched the interpretation and practice of Islam in 21st-century America for his Master’s degree at Princeton. He was an adjunct instructor in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at St. Francis College in New York and served as a Muslim adviser at Dartmouth, before returning to Brown in 2009 as the university’s Muslim chaplain. San Miguel Hosts World Interfaith Harmony Week Breakfast At 10 am on Thursday 3 February the Reverend Doctors Thomas D. Lynch and Cynthia C.Lynch of the International Academy for Interfaith Studies will host a breakfast for religious leaders of all traditions at the Real de Minas Hotel, at Ancha de San Antonio and Sterling Dickenson. This event is part of a coordinated worldwide set of breakfasts that will bring together people of different faiths (or no faith) for a meal and fellowship. Each of San Miguel’s spiritual leaders will be invited to represent his or her own faith by sharing with the group an offering of prayer, meditation, chanting, intentions or music from his or her own spiritual tradition. We hope that this will become an annual event and will expand to include all in the community, either in a common meal or as a day when households in the community join the celebration by hosting breakfasts in their own homes for people of different faiths and believes. This workshop will introduce the Jordanian model of interfaith relations, and will explore how Jordan has been successful in this area. We will examine how religious commonalities have been used as pragmatic tools for interfaith coexistence in Jordan. An introduction to Interfaith Harmony Week will also take place. The workshop will be comprised of paper presentations, discussions, and guest lectures.

All for Jordan will emphasize the importance of youth involvement in interfaith dialogue and will promote national unity.

It became clear to the Egyptian people and the rest of the world, that it is not in the newly elected President Morsi's top priorities to solve the Egyptian peoples problems. Unemployment is higher, peaceful demonstrators are being killed, party headquarters are being burned, and TV stations are being shut down or surrendered. Now, the big question is if Morsi is going to protect peace between the Arab world and the Israelis as much as Mubarak did in the past. The failure of Mubarak was that he wasted the chances to have his people live in welfare and kept peace as a hostage between him and his military aids. The Muslim Brotherhood's unity depends on their hatred call for Israel and the Jews. The people of M.E need to realize that peace can only be sustained with a well functioning democracy and admission that all people have their rights to live in security within their borders. We need to let the people take the reigns of peace from the hands of the fundamentalist ideologic systems. “We believe in God and in that which has been revealed to us, and in that which was revealed to Abraham, and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the tribes, and in that which was given to Moses and Jesus, and that which was given to the prophets from their Lord, we do not make any distinction between any of them and to Him do we submit.” With the same words of the Koran, late president Anwar El Sadat of Egypt finished his speech to the Knesset during his visit to Israel on November 20, 1977. The visit, which Sadat described in the same speech (knowing what constitutes a grave risk for him). The recent publication of anti-Semitic rant does not illustrate the Islamic world, neither that of the Egyptian people. The majority of the silent Egyptians, those with sons and grandsons which still bare the consequences of four fierce wars wagged against Israel within thirty years, do not believe in another destructive war. These people lived their lives on the appreciation and respect for what Sadat discussed with the Israeli people, and understand that rising above all forms of fundamentalism is one of their responsibilities towards one another. In their hearts, the Egyptian people believe in the rights of Israeli children to live in peace, just as they wish so for Palestinian children, and their own children. For the sake of the Egyptian revolution whom its first call was for peace, saving of life’s, for affording our communities opportunity to progress for the sake of nursing our children and our grandchildren on love: of Jews, as much as it is for Muslim children. Let us not fixate on politician’s slurs, and stir concern for those who oppose this kind of rhetoric. Newspapers, and blogs throughout the Middle East which are publishing antisemitic remarks must be scrutinized. Television programs which promote peace, and counter fundamentalism should not be eliminated. Let us avoid rebuilding a wall of fear that warned the Islamic world against extermination for a reason that some of the new occupiers of legitiment are fundamentalists. Let us gain back the respect for each other’s beliefs. The barriers built by some Egyptians, this time via politicians, should be cease to exist. We, the majority of silent Egyptians, who appreciate and protect peace considering living our daily lives waving the loose of life obligees (moltazemeen) over regret to the Jewish people. The fundamentalist speak loudly, but it should be known that although the voice of the opposition is quieter, it exists.
