On 5 February, Religions for Peace UK Women of Faith Network, alongside the Interfaith Chaplaincy at the University of Glasgow, hosted an event observing International World Interfaith Harmony Week. We delved deep into the "Dignity of Women" exhibition, igniting discussions on the pivotal question: "Can interfaith dialogue promote gender equity?" The Revd Dr Carolyn Kelly, Chaplain of the University of Glasgow, set the tone by extending a warm welcome to all, shedding light on the impactful work of the Interfaith Chaplaincy. She also reminded us of the recent 16 Days of Activism, where students and staff came together to challenge gender-based violence, a testament to our collective commitment to fostering a safer, more equitable world. Vice Principal Prof Iain McInnes enlightened us with his candid revelation about the significance of UN World Interfaith Harmony Week, stressing the imperative for people of faith to engage in dialogue and collaboration for peace. His emphasis on gender equity resonated deeply as he unveiled the timeless solutions embedded within religious scriptures. Ravinder Kaur Nijjar captivated our minds with her insights into the vital work of Religions for Peace UK, prompting us to ponder the distinction between gender equality and gender equity. Witnessing many participants discovering this difference for the first time was truly eye-opening, underscoring the transformative power of education and dialogue.
