Observed annually during the first week of February (1-7), World Interfaith Harmony Week was created “as a way to promote harmony between all people regardless of their faith”. (United Nations) Sr Giovanni Farquer, a Sister of Saint Joseph and former Congregational Leader, is currently working with the Archdiocese of Sydney as Director of the Archdiocesan Commission for Ecumenism and Inter-Religious Relations (ACEIR).   Throughout 2022, many ecumenical and inter-religious events attended by members of the Commission, took place within the Archdiocese of Sydney. “We particularly held events and initiatives with the Abrahamic faiths, built on our two joint-partnerships of the Christian-Muslim Interfaith Commitment and the Statement in celebration of 50 years of Nostra Aetate,” says Sr Giovanni. “Both of these were intended to foster collaboration, and in 2022 we continued to direct our efforts in the area of education which proved to be a powerful and effective vehicle for strengthening connections and furthering growth. “It is vitally important that we do not lose the sense of hope and achievement in the field of interfaith dialogue. For me, each year, this is an invigorating practice as we review together our accomplishments, and look towards the work we still hope to achieve in the future.”
