AIM OF THE PROJECT:

To achieve Interfaith Development using Religion as a tool to promote peace in Zambia

BACKGROUND OF THE PROJECT

Zambia is currently facing a high rate of human gassing, mob justice and ritual killing which have left the country lacking peace, security and stability. Citizens are killing innocent people on suspension to be the perpetrators of the gassing of homes, schools, colleges and universities. Riots have broken out in different parts of the country damaging government infrastructures and properties as citizen argued that they are not been protected by the government security wing.

It was therefore seen right to celebrate this year’s United Nations World interfaith harmony week (UNWIHW) by praying and advocating  for peace and harmony in Zambia. The celebration brought together people from different religion, faith ,culture and ethnicity to address issues  of mob justice, human gassing and ritual killing .This event had over 200 participants’ who included religious leaders, school children ,teachers and community members. These were between the ages of 7 years to 50 years old.

THE EVENT

  • The event started with a match past in solidarity for our nation Zambia

  • Followed by  a campaign advocating for peace  and harmony in Zambia as a result of the current gasing and killing of innocent people.
  • Later on religious leaders took the lead to pray for our nation Zambia and later shared methods of promoting peace and harmony  among citizens

  • That was followed by dances and song to remind ourselves that we are one people and one nation, despite having different religious beliefs, cultures and languages, as Zambians we will continue to uphold our motto of "One Zambia One Nation".

  • This was followed by different sports including football and netball.

  • The event concluded with sharing of food and drinks.  Sharing of Food is the easiest way of bringing diverse people together and further breaking the stereotypes in Zambia.
