As
#WorldInterfaithHarmonyWeek comes to an end we celebrate the milestone forums for Women of Faith and Women ulama and enhancement of their capacity to advance and promote women’s rights; peace co-existence and Interfaith dialogues.
Kongres Ulama Perempuan Indonesia (KUPI) represents an effort by female scholars to reclaim religious authority and provide interpretations that champion the rights of women. The movement holds that female scholars have existed for centuries, but their contributions have often been poorly documented.
KUPI is an intellectual, social, cultural, and spiritual movement that promotes gender justice, equality, and societal well-being. KUPI believes that women’s experiences and knowledge must be central references in religious interpretation, as women possess unique biological and sociological experiences distinct from men.
