JNI, CCN commend DGSS for hosting interfaith iftar to promote religious harmony

Christian leaders in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), led by Sabonyaro Adams, the Chairman, Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), and Treasurer, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), FCT Chapter, joined the Muslim Ummah to breaking of fast event, hosted by the Director General State Services (DGSS), Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, on Saturday, March 1, 2025, to mark the commencement of the Ramadan season. Blueprint gathered that other Christian clerics present at the event included: Revd. Canon Smart S. Simon, Assistant Secretary, CCN FCT  Chapter; Rev’d Fr. Peter Babangida Audu, CSN, Rev. Nicodemus Izuchukwu, Fr. Michael Banjo, CSN, Fr. Boniface Idoko, CSN and Snr. Special Apostle Beneni lyaye of the CAN FCT Secretariat. A press statement by the CCN Chairman, Rev’d Sabonyaro Adams, Tuesday in Abuja, said the event, which was organised to foster harmony amongst Christians, Muslims and peoples of other faith in the country, was one that the DGSS called “a tradition”. He added that over the years, “his commitment to fostering unity, religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence during such periods of Ramadan and the Lenten season, has never wavered.”
In his remarks, Rev’d Adams applauded the DG’s kindness and called on other leaders to emulate the same. He also noted that the DG had shown true love for others, which is the core of the Christian faith. He further reiterated that Nigeria is blessed with diverse cultures, ethnicities, and faiths, which, though sometimes pose challenges to cohesion, if harnessed, can make it the envy of nations. He encouraged leaders like the DGSS to remain undeterred and to keep the faith for the country to achieve greatness. On their part, the Muslim Ummah led by National Secretary General Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Prof. Khalid Aliyu Abubakar, appreciated the DG’s kind gesture of hosting their first Iftar meal for 2025. They commended the DG’s pragmatic leadership style, bridge-building effort, and the sense of unity with which he convened the event. Abubakar prayed for Allah’s wisdom upon the DG to help navigate the current complexities of nation-building, adding that “Mr. Ajayi, despite being the son of Christian Clerics, has made history.” The Intelligence chief, it was gathered, will extend the same treatment to the Christian community, who also would be commencing the the Lenten season on Ash Wednesday.
