On Sunday, Feb. 1 from 1-3 pm at the Dar Al Hijrah Islamic Center, 3159 Row St., Falls Church, JAMAAT (Jews and Muslims and Allies Acting Together) is holding an in-person General Assembly.  JAMAAT believes that it is important for Muslims, Jews and Allies to stand together to fight for the preservation of democracy, pluralism and freedom of speech and religious freedom for all and are concerned that some of these values have been placed in jeopardy.  Consequently, they will devote this Feb. 1 session to: “How Jews, Muslims, and Allies Can Stand Together Against the Administration’s Systematic Violation of Immigrant Rights.” The speakers at this event will discuss what they see as the worst abuses that have recently been perpetrated on American immigrants as well as how groups like JAMAAT may address such abuses.  Presentations will be made by Danilo Zak, Director of Policy, Church World Service; Fazia Deen, Immigration Attorney and Muslim community Activist (and JIDS Board Member); and Rev. Julio Hernandez, Executive Director of the Congregation Action Network.  After the speakers’ presentations and a follow-up Q&A, attendees will be given an opportunity for small group discussions on such issues as how the public can best fight back against unjust immigration policies and law enforcement abuses. A light lunch will be served.
