Charleston Mayor William Cogswell and Dr. Elijah Siegler, president of the Charleston Interreligious Council, are set to proclaim January 2025 as Interfaith Harmony Month.
The announcement will take place at a press conference scheduled for 5 p.m. Tuesday in the City of Charleston Council Chamber at 80 Broad Street.
CIC representatives will highlight the importance of Interfaith Harmony Month during the event. Mayor Cogswell, along with representatives from various faith traditions, will participate in the reading of a proclamation recognizing the month.
Interfaith Harmony Month was first recognized in South Carolina by Governor Nikki Haley in January 2011, with Governor Henry McMaster continuing the tradition. This year marks the sixth local observance in Charleston, in collaboration with the CIC.
