- Date & Time: 01 Feb 2011 (none)Description: Invitations have been extended to religious and spiritual leaders, leaders of other beliefs, interfaith supporters and Parliamentary MInisters to celebrate the inaugural UN World Interfaith Harmony Week. We recognise that\"Love of God and Love of the Neighbour and Love of the Good and Love of the Neighbour\' are found in all our Holy Texts and are the Substance of our faiths and beliefs. We are encouraged by the Love of Neighbour that has poured out from Australians, and from distant overseas Neighbours, to those people in distress and communities in devastation. - Date & Time: 27 Feb 2011 (8am)Description: “Feeding Faithfully” The Islamic Foundation of Toronto partners with Second Base Youth Shelter to raise money for “Feeding Faithfully” program for youth. The Islamic Foundation of Toronto has committed to funding the Second Base Youth Shelter’s Healthy Breakfast Program. The program provides a healthy and hot breakfast for street-involved and homeless youth in the Kennedy and Eglinton area of Toronto’s east end and provides a delicious and nutritionally sound breakfast for up to 56 youth every morning for a total of more than 20,440 hot meals each year. The program is run based on donations from a much stretched food services budget. With a growing number of studies that point to the positive effects of a nourishing breakfast on youth; this program must continue. Youth who skip breakfast are more likely to have higher cholesterol levels, and are also more likely to be apathetic, inattentive and disruptive in school and in the community than their breakfast consuming counterparts. For many youth at Second Base Youth Shelter this is often the first time in their troubled lives when they have been able to rely on a warm, balanced and freshly cooked morning meal. Many reports confirms, greater success in school or at work, making the healthy breakfast program an important tactic in fighting the root causes of poverty, homelessness and crime amongst Toronto’s youth.Location: Second Base Youth Shelter. 702 Kennedy RdCity: ScarboroughState: OntarioCountry: CanadaName: Waris MalikEmail: wmalik5611@rogers.comWebsite: http://www.insidetoronto.com/news/local/article/934192

Nizam, M.Sc.,DIC.,Ph.D will be speaking about spirit of servie and volunteerism. The purpose of this event to provide support and encouragement for activists and volunteers. Spirit of service and volunteerism grow when disaster strikes. For example when Merapi mount in Yogyakarta erupted in 2010. The affected communities need to be supported for their recovery. In addition, the program should be extended to variety of community, the society, nation and state. Because service and volunteering is one of the pillars towards the livelihoods. Not only for personal, family and group growth but also for society and nation. In more depth, service and voluntarism is a mean of personal learning. This requires the sacrifice of ego, animal instinct and personal comfort for the creation of livelihoods and happiness of all beings. Indeed, the spirit of service and voluntarism has become a cultural root of this nation. Reflected at least 3 different precepts of Pancasila. The three precepts are precepts is the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th includes human values, love of nation in the frame of internationalism, and democracy and dialogue. Both Prof. Nizam and Anand Krishna have been initiated and coordinated the implementation of post-disaster services in Indonesia. Prof. Nizam through Posyanis (Technical Services) UGM and Anand Krishna initiate and direct the conduct of the program and the Traumatic Stress Recovery Center which be held by the National Integration Movement (NIM), one of many wings of Anand Ashram Foundation concerning nationality and humanity. Shaykh Abd al-Wahid Pallavicini will discuss his book, which presents a dialogue between a French philosopher and intellectual who converted to Islam (René Guénon) and the teachings of a eastern master (Shaykh Ahmad Al-Alawi, the founder of the Tariqah Alawiyah). Rene Guenon became known as the \'unifier\' as his Arabic name Abd-al Wahid suggests. He is a vital figure whose teachings were able to regenerate the beneficial and complimentary attributes between East and West and are an example of perennial sacred wisdom in the last century. The launch of the book coincides with United Nations \"World Harmony Interfaith Week\". - Date & Time: 31 Jan 2011 (6:30pm)Description: “Out of Cordoba: Averroes and Maimonides” is a documentary film about Jews and Muslims struggling for social justice and against the hijacking of their religions by extremists. Inspired by two medieval ’wise men of Cordoba’ – one Muslim, the other a Jew – these contemporary people of faith are promoting the values of democracy and tolerance on the frontlines of the often-violent clashes that have come to define our new century. The film tells the story of the film’s director, Jacob Bender, who undertakes a journey around the Mediterranean after the attacks of 9/11, visiting Spain, Morocco, France, Italy, Egypt, Palestine, and Israel. He meets people who are utilizing their religious traditions to challenge the propositions – advanced by several neo-conservative pundits – that there is an inevitable ”clash of civilizations” between the West and the Muslim world, an incompatibility between Islam and democracy, and an unsolvable conflict between Muslims and Jews. - Date & Time: 07 Feb 2011 (5pm)Description: During the week of February 7th, Harvard University will celebrate Harvard Interfaith Awareness Week with events aimed at promoting interfaith dialogue and understanding. The events coincide with World Interfaith Harmony Week declared by the United Nations. Last October, the General Assembly of the United Nations unanimously passed Resolution A/65/PV.34 to establish World Interfaith Harmony Week. The Resolution identifies the first week of February as a time to reaffirm that “mutual understanding and interreligious dialogue constitute important dimensions of a culture of peace.” This statement evolved from influential regional and international efforts at promoting interreligious cooperation through initiatives such as the Tripartite Forum on Interfaith Cooperation and Peace and the “Common Word Between Us and You” statement addressed to Christians emphasizing love in Islam and Christianity and signed by over 130 Muslim leaders. In recognition of the global and local challenges and opportunities religious diversity poses, members of the Harvard Interfaith Collaborative will offer a week of programming aimed at nurturing and celebrating a climate of religious pluralism on campus. The Harvard Interfaith Collaborative is comprised of Harvard undergraduates and members of the Harvard College Interfaith Council, the Harvard Chaplains, the Center for the Study of World Religions, and graduate students from Harvard Divinity School. The events of Interfaith Awareness Week are free and open to all members of the Harvard community. The week’s schedule includes: MONDAY Panel Discussion: “Global Perspectives on Interfaith Responses to Violence” Where: Center for the Study of World Religions, 42 Francis Ave When: Monday, February 7, 5:15 – 6:45pm ...How can members of diverse faiths work together to combat violence—including religiously-motivated violence—in their communities? Join us for a conversation about how faith communities around the world are harnessing the power of interreligious cooperation to address legacies of religious and ethnic violence in their homelands. Parkman Professor of Divinity and Professor of Comparative Theology Francis X. Clooney, S.J. will moderate a discussion in which student and faculty respondents relate their experiences working with interfaith initiatives in conflict regions around the globe. Sponsored by the Center for the Study of World Religions. A Service Honoring the Life and Legacy of The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Where: The Memorial Church, Harvard Yard When: Monday, February 7, 7:00 – 8:00pm Join us for this annual service to honor the life and legacy of Rev. Homeboy Industries is recognized as the largest gang intervention and re-entry program in the county and has become a national model. Father Boyle has been working in LA with gang members for the past 22 years helping to provide jobs, training, meaning, hope, and alternatives to violence to thousands. His latest book, Tattoos on the Heart: The Power of Boundless Compassion, speaks about the role of compassion in helping to transform individuals and communities. This book was released on March 9, 2010 and received the 2010 SCIBA (Southern California Indie Booksellers Association) Non-Fiction Book Award. It was named one of the Best Books of 2010 by Publishers Weekly. Sponsored by the Harvard Chaplains, The Memorial Church, The Harvard Foundation for Intercultural and Race Relations, and the Black Students Association. On Faith in the Harvard Houses When: Tuesday, February 8, 7:30 - 9:30pm Where: Pforzheimer House, Comstock Living Room. How has your experience during college challenged, weakened, strengthened, deepened, or transformed your outlook on identity, faith, and life-style? How have you responded in thought and in action to these experiences? To what extent do you discover who you are, do you choose who you are, and to what extent does the experience of difference impact that? How does the present environment at Harvard support and challenge you with what you have chosen? The Harvard Chaplains invite you to an evening of interfaith conversation and learning. Join students and Harvard Chaplains for a panel discussion followed by small group conversation. Come hear personal narratives from one another, reflect on your experiences, and share hopes and dreams for the future of faith at Harvard and the world you wish to build. Moderated by Rev. Through civic engagement and interfaith action, strangers have become neighbors. Yet Fremont has also faced real challenges, especially after 9/11. The film was produced and directed by Elinor Pierce and Rachel Antell. Elinor Pierce, also the Research Director of the Pluralism Project at Harvard University, will lead a discussion of the film following the screening. Ever wondered where Buddhists at Harvard meet? And did you know that nearly 100 years ago the son of the founder of the Baha’i faith spoke in Cambridge? These sites (among others) are part of the interfaith landscape at and around Harvard University. To learn more about this diverse terrain, join us for an interfaith-themed scavenger hunt that will begin at Memorial Church with the creation of teams and distribution of clues and will conclude with a brief trivia game at the same location. Sponsored by the Harvard Interfaith Collaborative. FRIDAY Interfaith Speak-In: What If…? - Date & Time: 29 Jan 2011 (12 am)Description: The Interfaith Youth Action Group\'s Poverty and Education MDG youth leaders from IYAG will host an inter-generational Hunger Banquet on January 29, 2011 from 5pm to 7pm, in partnership with Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, VA. What is a hunger banquet? A Hunger Banquet is based around randomly dividing people up into three classes based on random income levels and then serving food portions based on what class they belong in (so the high earning income class gets a great meal, the middle class gets a smaller meal, and the lower class gets a very small portion of rice and a glass of water). We then engage in a dialogue about effects of hunger. It is a fun and family oriented dinner where we eat and play together while learning about hunger in our community and the world. This is suitable for children over 6 years old; for younger children there will be childcare available upon request.Location: 4444 Arlington BoulevardCity: ArlingtonState: VirginiaCountry: United StatesEvent Sponsor: Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, VAName: Sana SaeedEmail: ssaeed01@gmail.comPhone Number: 757-389-2538Website: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=124932927558430#!/event.php?eid=190248167671827

- Date & Time: 00 2012 (8pm)Description: PURPOSE: To celebrate all of humanity\'s ancestors, particularly those working for peace, freedom, and understanding. WHAT TO BRING: A drum or other noisemaker. A snap-light or other non-flame light source to be a part of the central symbolic bonfire. Warm, weather-appropriate clothing. Memories of your ancestors who have passed on. WHY: All Saints Eve (Samhain-Summer\'s End) has been celebrated in many traditions as the time when our ancestors are closest to us, and in this celebration we ask for their presence and their memories. Mr. Jefferson was a champion of freedom of conscience, and so we celebrate at his memorial. WHO: Anyone who honors their ancestors of any faith, or creed. Our gathering brings together Muslims, Wiccans, Christians, Jews, Pagans, Monotheists, Non-Theists, Buddhist, Hindu, African Diaspora, Native Americans, Aboriginals. All of our ancestors make up our common humanity. No one\'s ancestors are to be dishonored. HISTORY: Ecumenicon Fellowship, a small Maryland church made of home-based congregations, has been celebrating our ancestors on the mall for more than 20 years. This has been allowed because of the First Amendment of the US Constitution protecting the freedom of religion to practice in public spaces without interference as long as it is permitted and requested as any other public gathering. Open Hearth Foundation, our current partner in this celebration is an initiative to create a Pagan Community Center in the US capitol so that groups of many diverse beliefs may have a house of worship, study, and outreach free of prejudice.Location: Jefferson Memorial Washington, DCCity: washingtonState: Washington DCCountry: United StatesEvent Sponsor: www.nps.gov/thje/planyourvisit/directions.htmName: Charles ButlerEmail: chazzer3332000@yahoo.comPhone Number: 240-764-5748Website: http://www.ecumenicon.org/
